The Bosler Memorial Library is the home of the Cumberland County Law Library. This collection contains legal publications for legal research as well as a Layman's Law Library for the everyday user. The Cumberland County Law Library is located on the second floor in the Information Services Department.

 

Law Library Collection

The resources of the Law Library include both sources of Pennsylvania law, such as Purdon's Pennsylvania Statutes Annotated, and guides to its substance and practice, such as Standard Pennsylvania Practice 2d. Also available are works on specific areas of law such as evidence, trial practice, and workers' compensation. Items in the Law Library Collection are for reference only and cannot be checked out.

 

Layman's Law Collection

Located next to the public internet computers, these books on topics such as family law, landlord/tenant law, and estate planning are written in plain, easy-to-understand language for the layman seeking guidance in a legal matter. Books in the Layman's Law Collection may be checked out by patrons. Librarians can also assist patrons in finding additional legal resources at the state and local levels.

 

Westlaw Next

Part of the Cumberland County Law Library, Westlaw Next provides access to information resources including more than 40,000 databases of case law, state and federal statutes, administrative codes, newspaper and magazine articles, public records, law journals, law reviews, treatises, legal forms and other information resources. NOTE: This resource can only be used from an internet computer at any Cumberland County library location.

 

Carlisle Institute for Lifelong Learning: Legal Track

In addition to the collections and online resources, the library provides legal programming through its Carlisle Institute for Lifelong Learning. These programs fall into two tracks. The first is for legal professionals and provides continuing education (CLE) credit. The second track is for the layman. You can find out more about this legal programming here.
