When COVID-19 forced schools, libraries, and most businesses to shut down, many library users were still able to stay connected to their love of reading, accessing the Internet, and attending library programs, thanks to financial support from so many generous library donors.
Bosler Memorial Library was able to offer online programs, eBooks and eAudiobooks, introduce curbside pickup service for library materials, and purchase additional Wi-Fi hotspots so that Carlisle area residents could access the resources they needed. Since the library reopened in June 2020, more regular library services have resumed, while others remain limited in scope, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Although state and county aid normally covers around 55% of Bosler Library’s annual budget, the level of public funding these days may be at risk, due to the current state of the economy. Therefore, your financial support is needed now, more than ever, to ensure that you and everyone in the greater Carlisle area continues to have free access to valuable library materials, programs and services to help them stay connected.

If you are age 70½ or older, giving a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from your IRA is a great way to make a donation. It lowers your tax burden, even if you claim the standard deduction because it’s no longer taxable income if you roll it over directly to a charity like Bosler Memorial Library.
For the 2021 tax year, IRA owners and certain participants in qualified retirement plans are required to take distributions beginning at the age of 72. The minimum age for making a tax-free transfer from an IRA to a charity remains at 70½, and the annual limit for such transfers remains at $100,000.
If you have any questions about giving through your IRA, contact Molly Shane, CFRE, Development Officer, at (717) 243-4642, ext. 3222 or your financial advisor.
Bosler Memorial Library, located in downtown Carlisle, is a public library serving the Borough of Carlisle and seven townships in Cumberland County. Founded in 1900, Bosler Library's mission is to meet the community's evolving informational, educational, entertainment and cultural needs. In carrying out this mission, Bosler Library offers free access to resources and educational opportunities for Cumberland County residents of all ages, income levels and ethnic backgrounds, from early literacy programs for preschoolers to access to high-speed Internet for adults and free book delivery for homebound seniors.
While Bosler Memorial Library receives some tax support, private contributions are needed and greatly appreciated to cover more than 22% of the annual cost for the growing demand from the public for programs and services. Because Bosler Memorial Library is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, your donations are tax deductible under the full extent of the law.
To learn about different ways you can make an impact with your gift to Bosler Memorial Library, refer to our Opportunities in Giving brochure.
Please be aware that the Bosler Memorial Library and the Friends of Bosler are separate 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and as such are required by law to maintain separate accounting records. When making a donation, we ask that you do not combine your donations for the two organizations.

This could be especially attractive to you if you do not itemize deductions on your tax returns. For more information on eligibility criteria and how to make a gift through your IRA, click here.
