Circulation Period Policy

The basic loan period for most library materials is fourteen days with three renewals. Renewals are not available when materials are requested by other patrons.  Exceptions are listed below:

  • Professional Collection loans for 28 days with a maximum of 3 renewals.
  • Interlibrary Loan from a library outside of the Cumberland County Library System loan period is set by the lending library.  Renewals are also set by the lending library.
  • Reference Materials may loan for 1 day with renewals at the library's discretion.
  • Circulating Reference Materials loan for 3 day with renewals at the library's discretion.

The number of items available for loan may be limited due to the library's collection size and circulation demands. In general, card holders are limited to 25 video recordings and up to 100 total items (including 25 video recordings) per account. 

Additionally, at selected libraries, some card holders may be granted additional lending privileges on basic library materials (exceptions as noted):

  • County Prison borrower loan period is 7 days with 0 renewals.
  • Educational Support Home School Services borrower loan period is 28 days with 0 renewals.
  • Educational Support Support School borrower loan period is 28 days with 0 renewals.
  • Interlibrary Loan borrower loan period is 35 days.  Renewals are at the lending library's discretion.
  • Internal Library Use borrower loan period is 42 days with 1 renewal.
  • STAR Homebound borrower - See STAR Policy for all exceptions.
  • STAR Self-service borrower - See STAR Policy for all exceptions.
  • STAR Sites borrower - See STAR Policy for all exceptions.
