Get Outdoors (GO) Cumberland is an element of the Cumberland County Library System’s summer learning program, designed to exercise both the body and the mind as it gets families outside, doing activities together, talking, walking, and checking out library books. GO Cumberland is a collaborative effort of WellSpan Health and the Cumberland County Library System.

How Get Outdoors Works

There are fifteen “site markers” – wooden posts with a unique etching attached – that are hidden in local and state parks in Cumberland County. Visit your local library to register for the Get Outdoors program, and you’ll receive a guidebook, called a Ledger, and a rubbing sheet that you can use to record your discoveries. In the Ledger, you’ll find directions to follow that will help you locate each site marker.

When you find the site marker, you’ll see the etching with a 4-digit code. You can use your rubbing sheet and rub over the sheet with a crayon or pencil to reveal that marker’s artwork and code, but make sure you remember the 4-digit code by taking a picture or writing it down. You can enter the code online using the Beanstack app to receive credit for that hike. See the Rewards and Prizes page in the Ledger or on the website to find out about entries for the grand prize drawing and to receive a participation prize. The last day to locate site markers is Saturday, August 15. (All site marker posts will be removed after that date.) All hikes must be recorded in Beanstack no later than Saturday, August 22 to receive a participation prize and earn entries into the grand prize drawing.
