Beautify the Barriers Painting Project 2026

Beautify the barriersSince 2021, local artists painted murals on the line of concrete "jersey" barriers near the exit of our parking lot, transforming them into fabulous artwork! We are again seeking artists to repaint the barriers with new designs that tie into 2026's Summer Learning Program theme, "Unearth a Story." The Beautify the Barriers project will be publicly unveiled in early June 2026 where artists will be recognized for their creations.

Apply to Beautify the Barriers! This year, you can apply online! Fill out the form at the link, upload the required documents, submit, and you're done! You can still download an application or pick one up at the library. Completed applications must be received by February 20, 2026. Email completed applications to Ilse at ikryemadhi@cumberlandcountylibraries.org, drop them off at the library, or mail to 16 N. Walnut St, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.

Successful applicants must complete their painting during the month of May 2026. Artists are to supply their own materials. Here are some tips and tricks from the artists who participated previously.

Key Dates for 2026
January 1:  Applications open
February 20:  Applications due
March 20:  Applicants notified of acceptance and barrier assignments
April 10:  Applicants confirm to Library their acceptance to become 2026 Artists
May 1 - 31:  Painting of Barriers, completion by May 31
Early June:  Reception and public unveiling of the paintings

Questions? Please contact Ilse Kryemadhi at ikryemadhi@cumberlandcountylibraries.org or call 717-766-0171.

Take a look at the designs from 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025!
The designs, images, and ideas reflected in this art are solely those of the individual artists.
