Escape the clutches of Team Rocket as a new Pokémon trainer. For reasons unknown to yourself, you were abducted and your Squirtle was taken away. There had been numerous abductions of various Pokémon in the last few weeks but no one knew for sure who was behind it. Team Rocket seems to be planning something neferious and now you are caught up in it!

You wake up to a flickering light above your head. Consciousness comes back to you and you realize, with a painful throbbing in the back of your head, that someone must have knocked you out.
A dim and grimy room surrounds you and it appears someone just dumped you, rudely, onto a prison cot.
You were knocked out by something....a talking cat? A Meowth!? Pokémon can talk? You sit up carefully, your head still throbbing, the room doesn't offer much help. You get to your feet unsteadily, you should probably leave before whoever knocked you out comes back.
Looking around, you spot some points of interest. (if: $Camera is true)[The camera is no longer a problem now so you ignore it.] There is (else:) [is a [[blinking camera ->You Stand on the Cot]] above your head,] a rusted looking [[vent grate ->You Pull On The Vent Grate]] on the opposite wall, a large and heavily locked [[metal door->You Test The Door]] to your right and the [[prison cot ->You Inspect The Cot]] behind you.
You jump onto the cot and take a closer look at the camera. It whirls slowly and sadly from side to side and looks poorly installed. You hesitate for one moment and then cautiously take hold of the camera head and twist it to look away from anything important. Then you wait....
Nothing happens. The camera is still whirling but is now looking at nothing! Nice.
(set: $Camera to true)
[[What else should we break? -> A Blinking Light Wake You Up]]
You reach for the vent and test the screws. (if: $Camera is true)[The screws are practically falling out. With just a little bit of effort, you pull the vent grate from the wall. The vent behind looks dirty but serviceable. With a little jump, you clamber inside and begin a long, dirty journey to wherever this vent leads. You wish you could tell where you were going and who had locked you inside that room.
Being as quiet as possible, you soon reach another vent grate. Peeking through, you see what looks to be a storage room. Some people in simple gray uniforms with a little R on their chests are inspecting various containers. They keep talking about some plan, but you can't really get any details from where you are. [[Should you try to drop down into the room -> Hurry and scurry]] or [[continue and see what else there is -> Get blasted from the vent]]] (else:) [You attempt to move the vent, but strangely enough you hear this whirling sound. You look up and into the lens of a very obvious camera. The door behind you bursts open and gray-uniformed people with aggressive-looking Pokémon fill the room. Perhaps you should have taken care of the camera before you attempted your great escape?
[[Want to try again? -> A Blinking Light Wake You Up]]]
You yank on the door and it shakes a little. It looks fairly sturdy. Should you really keep on [[testing it ->You pull on the door again]]. There might be an [[easier path out of here? -> A Blinking Light Wake You Up]]After some thought, you flop belly first on the ground and shimmy your way under the bed. You notice a [[metal plate ->The Screws Are Very Loose]] on the wall with some wiggly screws and quite a bit of [[dust and dirt -> You Draw Your Name]]. (if:$Dirt is true)[Your name appears quite handsomely in the dirt now. You spent many valuable minutes adding your personal mark to the room.] Why you thought this was a good idea, you can't remember.
You manage to loosen the screws all the way with your fingers. Apparently whoever put you in this room will probably be receiving a hefty paycut. You shimmy your way through the huge hole in the wall and replace the vent to disguise your escape route. (if:$Dirt is true)[You wonder if it was mean to autograph your escape in the dirt. *Shrug](else:)[You wonder if anyone will figure out how you got out if they don't look under the bed.]
You dust yourself off and look around. You seem to be in some sort of maintenance tunnel. There is a loud constant noise coming [[from the right ->You Poke Your Head Out]], which seems to be only well-lit part of the tunnel. To your left, [[the hallway -> You Carefully Head Up The Stairs]] ascends up a flight a stairs into darkness but it is quiet. You spend a few precious minutes pretending you are six. After practicing your signature a few times, you become bored and turn back to inspecting the [[underneath of the cot ->You Inspect The Cot]].
(set: $Dirt to true)
The hallway goes on for a quite a distance but near the end you see a doorway partially open. You just need to get past what is obviously your cell door. That is an absurd amount of locks for one person.
You could explore further down the hall but the open door seems like a [[good place to begin -> Go towards the light]].The tunnel is almost completely black and you keep tripping over small things left on the floor. As you feel your way along, the wall disappears and you realize there is a side tunnel [[leading to the left-> You Get Yourself Turned Around]] but the [[main tunnel continues on->You Keep Going Forward]].The path feels like you have taken so many left turns, you should be making a big circle. As you keep moving forward, hands out front, you desperately wish for a Fire-type, a nice Charmander, even a cute little Pikachu to give you glimpses of the surroundings.
Finally, you walk straight into a wall and find that the tunnel ends in a T intersection. One [[path leads left -> You Get Yourself Turned Around]], one [[path leads right ->The Path Right]].You took a wrong turn somewhere, you keep stumbling along in the dark. Thankfully, you can hear noises still echoing down the hallway and you follow it back to the [[stairs you first ascended -> You Carefully Head Up The Stairs]]. (If: $vent is true) [Somehow, you have avoided all of the Team Rocket members in the storeroom. The open door is right in front of you, and with one glance behind you, you see two of those lackeys move into a direct view of the door, but they don't look over at you at all and just stand there talking. Truly lucky! You slip out, with no one the wiser. And now in front of you, there appears a large loading bay.] (else:) [The door creaks open and you see a dim light at the end of the tunnel and you, with relief, sneak your way down to the light and look out in to what appears to be a loading dock.] Many people, walking around in gray uniforms with a bright R on their chests were loading and unloading crates and cages full of Pokémon. Many Pokémon were also following their trainers as they worked, no way were you were sneaking all the way out.
There was a lot of large cargo crates stored around the perimeter of the room which could give you cover to move around. Two guards walk by and one loudly mentions that they need to head for the security room for a shift. The two part ways and one heads to the left going toward a hallway, the other moves into the cargo area away from prying eyes with a Wimpod following them.
Hmmmm, two very interesting choices. [[Sneak attack ->You Quietly Tiptoe]] or [[sneak away -> You Quietly Follow]]!As the guard leaves the loading dock, you sneak along behind and watch as they enter what appears to be a control room.
Should you enter the room?
(if: $Uniform is true)[You are wearing a Team Rocket uniform now, you should be blend in quite nicely. [[Enter -> The Dim Control Room]] or [[not -> You Turn Back]]] (else:)[You aren't wearing a uniform, so you might stand out. Should you still [[enter -> A Loud Control Room]] or [[not -> You Turn Back]]] As you stumble forward, your foot catches something and you tip forward and fall. You just barely catch youself on a door handle. The [[tunnel in front of you -> You Get Yourself Turned Around]] seems to be sloping down now, rather steeply. The [[door handle-> Turn The Handle]] you caught seems to be unlocked though. The guard is checking some of the crates near you, Wimpod is farther ahead poking his face into a knocked over container cautiously. Slowly you creep forward and pass an open crate. Nestled inside are Pokeballs. You grab one, creep closer, close enough to swing.
*Thunk
The guard crashes to the ground, Wimpod reels around and sees you. A long second passes and then Wimpod, as cowardly as Wimpods are, flails about and runs off to get away.
Success!
Should you [[sneak into the loading dock ->You decide to escape!]], [[follow the other other guard now that you blend in -> You Quietly Follow]] or [[observe the downed guard a little longer -> Observe the guard]]?
(set: $Uniform to true)
You drag the guard off into the hallway and take his overalls. Poor guy might be a bit cold when he walks up but oh well.
You cautiously approach a loaded carrier with guard and their Zubat, he clicks his pen imperiously and looks over his clipboard at you. You look behind you and [[debate going back for a minute. ->You Quietly Tiptoe]] or [[following the other guard -> You Quietly Follow]].
"Name."

He grunts and marks something on his clipboard, the Zubat screeches behind him threateningly.
"Alright, you're the new guy, right? Nort..." He makes another mark. "Okay, where are you headed?"

Ah, [[maybe this isn't going so well -> Another Question]].The guard scoffs, "Why do they need so many people over there, it is practically at the edge of our territory."
He makes another mark and you gulp. Is there another question incoming!
"Last question." //You knew it!// "I see that Pokeball in your hand. What Pokémon are you taking?"
You answer:
[[Krabby -> The guard gives you a look]]
[[Vespiquen -> The guard gives you a look]]
[[Applin -> The guard gives you a look]]
[[Wimpod -> The guard waves you through!]]
The guard gives you a look. Then he says, "According to my clipboard, that Pokémon doesn't belong to you. In fact, we don't have anyone on base that has that Pokémon....do you mind repeating what you said, carefully?"
You gulp and [[try again -> One More Question]].The guard grunts one more time and waves you through. You book it into the deepest part of the carrier as soon as his back is turned and find your way to the front of the carrier where the cockpit is deserted. Without a moment's hesitation, you lock and barricade the door, and then sit down in the driver's seat.
You strap in, wait for a break in the traffic, and then put the carrier into gear and throttle it. Team Rocket members scramble to escape your sudden escape, a few of them call their Pokémon out to try and counterattack but you aim directly for the outside.
Apparently this bunch was unprepared for the possibility of an escape attempt and they simply can't get themselves into formation in time to stop you. You watch in the rear-cameras as the base behind you disappears into the horizon. You've made it! You don't know who kidnapped you or what plans this Team Rocket has for all these Pokémon but you can alert the authorities once you get far enough away!
You relax into the seat and pull up the onboard map to plot your escape route!
Ending: I'm Out! Not My Problem!
[[Next ->The Ending]] The control room is dimly lit and no one pays any attention you as you enter. The uniform acts a perfect cover. You begin to move towards the monitors to see if you can get any useful information.
There are tons of Team Rocket members running around but in the corner, you notice something //odd//. A foot dangling from a vent, which was attached to a leg, attached to a body covered in a white lab coat.
As you watch, a red reptilian mouth pokes down and a small burst of flame melts a large hole into the side of the water loop cooling system for the computer servers.
Water gushed out, spreading across the room. People look up, confused. You froze for a second but when a bright yellow tail (with sparks already coming off it) poked out of the vent and you realized you had to make a choice. [[Jump onto a nearby chair -> Electricity snakes throughout the room]], [[dive for the door -> You feel the electricity hit]], or [[try climb the nearest server -> You feel the electricity hit]]You turn back to the loading bay. The control room is full of personnel who jump up at the sight of you. Apparently the fact you are wearing a uniform is immediately apparent...//to everyone//.
You don't remember much as the nearest Rhyhorn proceeds to knock you into next week.
Um, should you [[try again -> You Quietly Follow]]?As your feet leave the ground, electricity, conducted by the water, surges all around the room. Thankfully the chair protects you from the worst of it and you balance precariously as the electric surge dies down.
*Clang
The vent grate completely drops from the ceiling and a older yet sprightly man jumps down. He has a short spiky gray hair and a stained white lab coat. Clinging to his shoulders are two Pokémon. A Charmander and a Pikachu.
You look at him and he looks at you. Then he says: "I think the person you got that uniform off of was a //wee// bit taller than you". You shuffle your feet and feel the hem drag on the chair.
Pikachu sparked and Charmander's tail flared up. "Now," the professor-ish man said, "who //are// you?"

The door handle promptly comes off...
You stand there holding it, blankly staring at it wondering what to do now, and then you hear an ominous creaking sound. You look up just in time to see the door, broken free from the hinges you tampered with, flying at your face. *SLAM
Your nose is throbbing, and you are currently under the door you were trying to open, but it is open! Hazzah. You crawl out from under the door and investigate the outside hallway. It is long and hollow sounding. But at the very end, you see an open doorway spilling light. It [[looks like that's your only option --> Go towards the light]].
The door was partially open, and the light was bright enough to blind your eyes. Now that you were closer, you could hear rustling, some murmuring, and what sounded like sad chirps. Slowly you open the door and look inside, and the first thing you see is rows and rows of cages holding a variety of different Pokémon.
Some were trying to huddle together through the bars; others were testing the cage strength, and still others were sitting down with complete weariness and tiredness.
Oh no.
The sound of the door opening alerted some of the Pokémon to your presence! A grumpy looking Pikachu close to you waved his hands to get your attention and pointed at the door of his cage. It looks like it's not completely closed and you might be able to open it. At the back of the room, you can see what looks like a breaker box. Should you [[help the Pikachu --> Break the lock]] or [[inspect the box --> Go to the breaker box]]
You jiggle the padlock and see that the lock isn't properly seated. Pikachu rams the cage again, and you see that the door is bending outward between the broken lock and Pikachu's attacks. So, with a little bit of twisting and a grunt or two, you manage the pull the shackle out of the lock's body. With one more ram from Pikachu, the cage door flies open, and you find your arms full of a fuzzy yellow Pokémon. Pikachu seemed to really appreciate your help and keeps patting your face while chirping.
You smile, at least something is now going right. But, as if some unknown fate-based deity heard your words, another door slams open, and you hear the shouting of a guard. You turn around and see a tall, lanky blue haired man wearing a gray uniform with a little R embroidered on it.
The man throws out his arm and a Pidgeotto appears. Pikachu jumps from your arms and lands in front, apparently you are now in a full-blown battle!
Pidgeotto flaps its wings and then shoots directly across the room at Pikachu! Should Pikachu [[dodge -> Bad Choice]] or [[try to tank the blow ->Pikachu Defends]]!
You decide to inspect the box first and see that it is actually a breaker box. You look left and then right; no one seems to be around. Making a quick decision, you slam the lever down.....*whrrrrmmmmmmmm* It sounds like the entire room has just shut off, and then the red emergency lights blink on. Then, nothing. The room becomes deathly quiet. Just as you start to think that the breaker box did nothing to help you, you hear thousands of latches being automatically undone behind you, and the entire room starts to fill with excited chirps, growls, and low roars. Did you just... undo all of the latches to ALL of the cages?
Cage doors bang open behind you, and you turn around just in time to see a stampede of Pokémon rushing the door. In the confusion, you are knocked to the ground by a rhino-like Nidorino, which you can just barely see in the red light. Near the door, you see one cage that has not been unlatched. Inside is that Pikachu that waved to you. Pokémon are rushing about the room, trying to find the closest exit. [[Should you run for Pikachu's cage -> Get into the stampede]] or [[wait for a break in the crowd -> Get run over]]
You cry out for Pikachu to dodge but Pidgeotto seemed to have anticipated your move. As Pikachu leaps out of the way, Pidgeotto changes direction suddenly and slams right into an unprepared Pikachu.
Pikachu falls to the ground, knocked out! Pidgeotto wheels around and comes flying at your next, and, well, you just aren't nimble enough to dodge.
[[Want to try again? -> Break the lock]] You yell for Pikachu to defend himself. Pikachu stomps his feet and plants himself as Pidgeotto flies past. Thankfully, Pikachu took the hit well and stayed on his feet perfectly fine. Pidgeotto's attack was pretty ineffective!
You open your mouth, ready to give a new command! Should Pikachu [[attack -> Pidgeotto is hit!]] or should he try [[to tackle the flying Pokémon ->Tackle Fails]]!Pidgeotto attempts another flying attack, but Pikachu is prepared this time. As Pidgeotto approaches, sparks fly and Pikachu generates a large burst of electricity that manages to catch Pidgeotto in its wing!
Pidgeotto squawks, annoyed, and lands on the ground. It attempts to lift off once or twice but it quickly becomes apparent that the attack grounded Pidgeotto. Pikachu gets back into position and Pidgeotto lowers its head like it is about to headbutt something.
Should Pikachu [[press his attack -> Worse Choice]] or [[dodge out of the way -> Pidgeotto Smacks his head]]Pikachu crouches down and then launches himself at Pidgeotto. It looks elegent almost, times seems to slow, and it looks like Pikachu will land his tackle! Then Pidgeotto takes a sharp right turn out of the path of Pikachu's attack and Pikachu, panicked, tries to readjust but lands awkwardly and rolls hard into wall....
Pikachu is knocked out and Pidgeotto wheels around to come after you next. Better luck next time.
[[Want to try again ->Pikachu Defends]] You yell for PIkachu to try shocking Pidgeotto one more time but the bird seems to have learned much in a short amount of time. It dodges around Pikachu's attack and then slams right into a stationary Pikachu!
Pikachu is knocked out and then you are next.
[[Want to try again? -> Pidgeotto is hit!]]Listening to your cry, Pikachu dodges out of the way, and Pidgeotto shoots straight past and slams into a row of cages. Pidgeotto is knocked out! The blue-haired Team Rocket lackey makes a break for the door when he realizes that his Pokémon is down, but Pikachu puts a quick end to that idea with a very quick blast of electricity. Pikachu then turns back to you, looking so smug.
You sigh in relief...and then the alarm blares. Doors open further down the row, near where you saw the breaker box. Saying silent apologies to all of the still caged Pokémon, you scoop up Pikachu and rush out of the room back into the first hallway. To your left, you see a doorway to the outside. But two more Team Rocket Lackeys have spawned, and you need to get through them! [[Do you rush the shorter lackey? He doesn't have a Pokémon out yet -> Get ambushed]] or [[Should you go after the other one, he's already summoned a Vulpix! ->Send out Pikachu!]]
You rush the short lackey and attempt to tackle him. But even before you could get close, a huge blast of fire envelopes both of you, sending you flying through the air, burned and in bad shape. Both you and the lackey land hard in the hallway. Pikachu runs over and tries to get you to move but gets hit by a Pokeball before he can do anything. On the floor, burned, and without backup, all you can do is wait for the Team Rocket lackey to deliver a final blow that knocks you unconscious. Well, that was a bad choice.
[[Want to try again? -> Pidgeotto Smacks his head]]
You order Pikachu out to attack the Vulpix and distract her. While that is happening, you outmaneuver the shorter lackey and immediately tackle the other one who is caught up in the battle between his Vulpix and Pikachu. He hits the ground hard and seems dazed. You scramble off of him and turn around. Pikachu has somehow managed to shock Vulpix into unconsciousness with a well-timed blast of electricity. The shorter lackey seemed to reconsider his career choices, then he finally turned, stumbled over his own feet, and raced down the hallway like dogs were on his tail.
Pikachu took a running leap and landed on your shoulders; before the dazed man on the floor could get his bearings, you ran for the door. Outside, you were on a catwalk overlooking a facility. You've got exactly two choices: [[go left -> Find a ladder to climb]] or [[go right -> Inside a building]]
(Set: $catwalk to true)
You rush left and find a ladder that seems to go down to the ground. Perfect! It does look a little sketchy. Rusted in parts and a little wobbly but you don't have many options. Pikachu jumps onto your shoulder and you slowly start to descend the ladder.
But about half way down, you stop suddenly as the ladder becomes more and more unstable. Thankfully it is still holding just so long as nothing violent happens.
As your thoughts summoned something, you hear a chirp from above and look up to see that Vulpix and his Team Rocket lackey looking down at you. Ah, that's not good.
You can't do very much but fall after Vulpix smashes the ladder's bolt at the top. They really should have replaced this sooner.
[[Want to try again? ->Send out Pikachu!]] You went right; the catwalk extended off into the distance, but you could see a small building ahead. Poking your head in, Pikachu jumped from your shoulders and inspected a console near a large glass window. All around the room, you could see large pod-things, escape pods? If so, well done, you.
From behind, you hear noises like someone is yelling. I guess that lackey is no longer dazed, and he sounds pretty angry that you got away from him and his Vulpix. You slam the door shut and wedge a chair under the handle. It'll hold for now. But you need to get the escape pods ready to go, now! [[Should you unlatch the door to the pod -> Something went wrong]] or [[get the computer to move the pod into position -> The gears grind a little]]?
You unlatch the numerous locks on the escape pod door and swing it wide open. The inside looks pretty inviting for an emergency pod. Behind you, Pikachu hits something on the console and mechanical arms in the ceiling move to bring the pod to the launching area. Someone rattles the door behind you, and you hear the lackey yell for his Vulpix to melt the lock.
But the pod is moving, the door is open, everything seems to be going well until the mechanical arm fails to grasp one side of the escape pod properly because...you guessed it, the door was in the way. The escape pod slams onto the floor, and the mechanical arms stop like they aren't sure what to do next. Pikachu slaps his face in exasperation. The door behind you slams open, and you are faced with not only the lackey you knocked out but also several of his friends.
Well, maybe that wasn't the right way to start this escape.
[[Want to try again -> Inside a building]]
You inspect the console with Pikachu and press a button labeled ESC. POD SEQ. You aren't a genius, but that looks like it will do something with the escape pods. Sure enough, mechanical arms descend from the ceiling and grab an escape pod to move it to the launching area. As the arms work, you hear someone at the door; the handle rattles, and then you hear several people yelling. Looks like Vulpix's dad got some friends to back him up.
The arms finish, and the pod is now resting in what looks like a giant metal catapult. You rush over to the pod, undo the numerous locks, unlatch the door, and step inside. Inside, one large seat has as many straps as you could wish for; you strap in, and Pikachu grabs hold of your shirt. You are as ready as can be; near your head are holographic controls. There is a handy open for automatically closing the door, which is honestly so useful. There, door is no longer open! There is also one large START button and one even larger EMER LAU button. Huh, okay. Which one should you press? [[START -> It took too long]] or [[EMER LAU -> You get flung]]
START seems like the obvious choice, and it is so tempting to push, so you do! The computer starts a countdown from 30 seconds, but the door to the room doesn't last that long. After only 10 seconds have passed, the door is slammed open by the lackey, his Vulpix, and their numerous friends. You stare at them through the glass of the escape pod door. They stare back, and then Lackey walks over to the console and hits the very large, very red ABORT button.
Whoops.......
[[Want to try again -> The gears grind a little]]
Without thinking, you hit the EMER LAU button. Immediately, alarms spring up on the dashboard around you. Red light fills the cockpit, and the last crystal-clear thing you see is the door to the building being slammed open by Lackey and his Vulpix. But you don't have to worry about that because EMER LAU apparently stands for Emergency Launch, and there is a reason the escape pod launching area reminds you of a catapult.
The world becomes a blur, and you are slammed back into your seat as the escape pod quite literally flings into the atmosphere. As the world outside the pod spins, Pikachu holds on for dear life to your shirt, and you hold onto him for dear life. The trip seems to last hours, but it might have only been 30 seconds in the air until the pod shoots out a parachute to soften the landing.
Still, you land quite heavily on a rocky slope. A little rattled, you climb from the pod and take in your surroundings. Pikachu refuses to let go of your shirt, and you yourself are still trying to get your head on straight after that turbulent escape. The facility is far in the distance. Your victory feels a little hollow since you know all those Pokémon are still caged inside, but at least now, you are free, and you can bring the authorities back to help free all of them.
Ending: A Little Medieval But It Worked.
[[Next ->The Ending]] Taking a deep breath, you jump into the fray and nearly get stomped by a cat-like Persian. At the last second, you stumble over your own feet, and the Persian jumps nimbly over your back. You scramble back to your feet and realize you are surrounded by Pokémon on all sides. [[You think you see a gap to the right -> Get run over again]] or [[You could try another leap of faith -> Get bashed by a Mr. Mime]]You decide to wait for a minute to see if the stampede is lessened. But as you wait, out of the corner of your eye, you see the Nidorino coming back at you. Huh, since it found no other humans in the room, it must have thought you were the next best target. They are known for being aggressive.... That is the last thing you remember thinking before the Nidorino runs you down.
[[Want to try again? -> Go to the breaker box]]
Well, the gap wasn't as big as you thought. You think of many things you could have done differently as a rushing Poliwrath sends you flying into oblivion.
[[Want to try again? -> Get into the stampede]]
You hesitate for a single second and then rush forward again, hoping this wasn't a mistake. You actually make it several yards until you feel two small feet on your back that send you flying forward.... You hit the ground pretty hard, and you look up to see a Mr. Mime above you, looking entirely unrepentant that he used you as a landing pad. In fact, he doesn't even spare you a second glance but starts to...feel the air? Ah, wait, the Pokémon rushing toward him are being squashed into something invisible. Did he just create a wall?!? [[Should you trust the mime's abilities -> Go through the invisible tunnel]] or [[Look for a different path -> Put yourself into the stampede again!]]You take a deep breath and trust Mr. Mime's abilities. The first few steps don't turn out so well since Mr. Mime made the tunnel much smaller than you expected, but soon you adjust and rush across to the caged Pikachu! He is banging on the cage with all his might. It looks like his cage was locked with a regular padlock, maybe because an electronic lock would have been susceptible to his electricity? Between the two of you, you manage to break the padlock entirely, and you find your arms full of a fuzzy yellow Pokémon! He looks incredibly grateful!
You don't have long to bask in the moment; behind you, a loud ripping noise hurts your ears. The stampeding Pokémon have finally torn a hole in the wall. With the huge number of Pokémon rushing to and fro, you kind of expected some damage to occur. There is now a large hole in the wall to your right, and it appears to lead out to an outside area full of rocky terrain. [[A large river rushes beneath a cliff -> You attempt to ford the river]], and [[there appears to be a rocky path along a canyon wall -> the path is tricky]]. Where should you go?
You don't trust the little mimic's invisible wall, so you turn to the crowd of squished Pokémon and begin to force your way through. It goes pretty well too. You see the caged Pikachu just a few steps away, encouraging anyone who passes by to help with the lock on his cage. But just as you reach the edge of the Pokémon, a random attack from a flailing Hitmonlee smacks into your legs and sends you flying face-first into a row of hard cages. Yikes, that was definitely enough to knock you out.
[[Want to try again? -> Get bashed by a Mr. Mime]]
You take a running leap into the river, holding Pikachu above your head like some duffel bag you don't want to get wet. It goes well for about 5 steps, and then your foot slips on an uneven rock, and your river-fording attempt goes head over heels into the rapids. You and Pikachu spin wildly in the water, getting banged up on the river walls until the deafening rushing sound clues you in that you are about to go over a waterfall.
Maybe not the best solution.
[[Want to try again? -> Go through the invisible tunnel]]
A large number of the Pokémon have already fled the scene; you can see a few stragglers like a small group of Slowpokes plodding along, one Jigglypuff looking around, and a Psyduck clutching his head as per usual. You avoid the Jigglypuff as much as possible; she appears to be looking for someone new to be her audience, and now you are stuck behind the Slowpokes who have decided that lying down across the entire path in a huge pile to stick their tail in the water is the perfect thing to do.
Poking the tail doesn't seem to do anything; [[should you try to get the Slowpokes to move -> You are there all day]] or [[should you just try to climb over them? -> You scale the Slowpoke]]
You poke at the Slowpokes, you prod the tails, you tickle the sides, even Pikachu tries to give them a little jolt. Nothing seems to wake these guys out of their stupor. Growing increasingly frustrated with your choice, you get more and more distracted by moving this roadblock of a Pokémon. In fact, you are so invested in your current task that you forget all about the Jigglypuff who toddles up behind you without you realizing. You only realize that Jigglypuff is there when you slump onto the ground, slowly falling asleep thanks to her soothing melody.
What is even more insulting is that Psyduck is so involved with his headache that he doesn't even react! Well, that was fun.
[[Want to try again? -> the path is tricky]]
You slap your hands together and, with Pikachu securely on your shoulder, take a running leap to try and get over the Slowpoke pile. You clear the first two Slowpokes in the pile easily but have to climb gingerly over the rest. Finally on the other side, you slide down and nearly take a header off the rocky path into the river below. Well, that wasn't fun, but it was pretty efficient.
Ahead of you lies a wide open rocky plain. As you stand in the shade of the canyon around you, you feel Pikachu chirp happily from your shoulder. That's right, you might be leaving this place quietly, but you are leaving with a friend. The escaped Pokémon seem to have already made tracks; you can only see a few of them in the distance. The facility doesn't seem to have gone on alert yet, but they are sure to realize their Pokémon are missing soon. You had better not be there when that happens.
You give Pikachu a head rub before you set out to find the nearest town. The desert looks pretty big, but with your little friend on your shoulder, you think you might be okay.
Ending: Off On An Adventure!
[[Next ->The Ending]] You carefully pull the vent grate up; the Team Rocket lackeys underneath don't notice, thankfully. Once they scatter a little more, you drop into the room and land on a soft cloth-covered box. You barely have time to breathe before you hear footsteps coming from the corner of the shelf. [[Should you squeeze yourself into the shelving unit -> You Squeeze in]] or [[try to make it to the next aisle -> You get caught]]You decide against the storeroom. With your luck so far, you'd trigger a trapdoor that would lead to another cell. As quietly as you can, you keep shuffling through the vent. You pass by several other grates that look into other rooms that look like labs and dormitories. The vent goes up and then down, right and then left. At one point, you could have sworn it somehow turned sideways. As you pass by another vent grate, you look down again to see if there is anything interesting.
Why? Yes. That is interesting. It is another cell with an older man with spiky grey hair. He appears to be wearing a lab coat. As you look down, he suddenly looks up. Ah, he saw you. Not good.
The older man grins and then rummages through his lab coat and produces two Pokeballs. How did his captors miss those! You try to escape, but two very energetic creatures slam into the vent and send it crashing to the ground. You look up and realize you have just been dumped into the cell. [[Well, this isn't great -> Professor Spruce]]
(set: $vent to true)Just as a Team Rocket lackey rounds the corner, you squeeze yourself between two boxes and wait them out, quite uncomfortably. They don't notice you at all. Once you are sure the coast is clear, you move quietly to the end of the aisle. You can see an open door leading to a lit hallway a few steps away, but there are still two people between you and the door. You have three choices: [[a middle aisle with plenty of cover -> A bad choice again]], [[the aisle to the left that has at least one person in it -> A bad choice again]], or [[scurry down the right aisle -> Turn The Handle]].
(Set: $vent to true)Well, it was a good attempt, but as you rush to your next position, a Team Rocket lackey appears out of nowhere like one of those fabled random encounters you always hear about. Well, good run. [[Want to try again? -> Hurry and scurry]]Well, it was a good attempt, but as you rush to your next position, a Team Rocket lackey appears out of nowhere like one of those fabled random encounters you always hear about. Well, good run. [[Want to try again? -> You Squeeze in]]There is a tense silence between the two of you. Behind the older man, you see what crashed into the vent. One very energetic Charmander and one bored-looking Pikachu. The Charmander keeps spitting up flames, which annoys Pikachu quite a bit. The older man suddenly claps his hands together and then introduces himself as Professor Spruce, a lead professor in the study of Pokémon evolution and ecology! You ask if he was captured too, and he enthusiastically relates how he was captured while doing a field study.
In fact, it seems the professor doesn't even seem to worry about the fact that he was kidnapped but seems more worried that Team Rocket (as he called his kidnappers) left some valuable samples behind. Professor Spruce then admits that he was just about to force his way out of his cell, but since you have dropped in quite by chance, he feels a duty to also give you a fighting chance. So without further ado, he offers you a choice. Would you like a [[Pikachu -> A Little Electric Mouse]] or a [[Charmander -> Descendant of a Dragon]]?
After a moment of thought, you cautiously present your hand to the bored-looking Pikachu. He looks at your hand, at the professor, and then seems to have come to a serious decision. With a great big sigh, he leaps up to your shoulder and gives you a look as if he has just done you a great favor. Which, in all honesty, he kind of did.
Charmander burps out another fireball and then toddles over to the professor, who is clumsily climbing into the vent. Once he has ungracefully ascended to the vent system, Professor Spruce tells you that he has already taken the door off the hinges but was just waiting for the right moment to begin his escape. You wonder about the professor's mental state but gratefully take the door and [[leave with your new companion -> Security Door]].
(set: $Pikachu to true)
The Charmander wanders over to your leg and gives you a greeting. Well, it looks like your Pokémon has been chosen. You reach down and let Charmander clamber onto your back. He seems very pleased about his new perch.
Pikachu waves goodbye to you and then hops into the vent system where the professor is clumsily climbing into the vent. You wonder about the professor's mental state but gratefully take the door and [[leave with your new companion -> Security Door]].
A long hallway stretches in both directions but from the left you hear talking and loud noises. Poking your head in, you realize that you are close to a loading dock. Thankfully you are hidden fully by a stack of shelves.
As you look around, you realize there is a large security door close by. Tucked away from the rest of the room.
