Quakers and the Underground Railroad
The Friends of the New Cumberland Public Library will present the Cultural Program on Sunday,October 14th in Foundation Hall from 3:00-4:00 pm. LaMar Matthew, longtime active member of York Quaker Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, a native York County resident, and lifelong student of history, will present a program on who the “peculiar people” called Quakers were and their beliefs that led them to assist freedom seekers along the perilous routes of the Underground Railroad though Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, and on to freedom.
Cultural Programs are open and free to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. Further information is available by contacting the main desk of the Library at 717-774-7820.
