Because of you, all who live and work in the Carlisle area are fortunate to have Bosler Memorial Library as our public library, with free and equal access to library materials, services and programs available to all area residents. The Library is not just a building with books; it is a place for early learning, lifelong learning, civic discourse, community engagement, technology services and access. Each of you, who help to make all of this possible, are Bosler!

Funding from the county library tax and state support together account for just 55% of the Library's annual budget. That's why your support continues to be crucial to making library books, services, programs and other resources available to the public.
And once again, the McCormick Family Foundation is offering a matching gift challenge. So, for every new donation to Bosler Memorial Library, the McCormick Foundation will match it (up to $7,500 total). To find out whether your gift is eligible for a match, click here or contact Molly Shane, Development Officer, at firstname.lastname@example.org or (717) 243-4642, ext. 3222.

Giving Through Your IRA -- Changes in the Tax Law with the SECURE and CARES Acts
A lot has changed and continues to change in the tax law as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. While the SECURE Act that was passed in late 2019 made some changes to tax law regarding giving through retirement funds, the more recent CARES Act, signed into law on March 27, 2020, resulted in additional and new changes to the law.
Under the SECURE Act that was enacted in December, IRA owners and certain participants in qualified retirement plans are required to take distributions beginning at the age of 72. The mandatory beginning age had been 70½. Under the CARES Act, for the year 2020, there will be no mandatory distributions -- no matter the age of the account owner.
The minimum age for making a tax-free transfer from an IRA to a charity remains at 70½, and the annual limit for such transfers remains at $100,000. However, because of the modification of deduction limits in 2020, one could exceed this limit.
If you have any questions about the above options, contact Molly Shane, CFRE, Development Officer, at (717) 243-4642, ext. 3222 or your financial advisor.
Bosler Memorial Library, located in downtown Carlisle, is a public library serving the Borough of Carlisle and seven townships in Cumberland County. Founded in 1900, Bosler Library's mission is to meet the community's evolving informational, educational, entertainment and cultural needs. In carrying out this mission, Bosler Library offers free access to resources and educational opportunities for Cumberland County residents of all ages, income levels and ethnic backgrounds, from early literacy programs for preschoolers to access to high-speed Internet for adults and free book delivery for homebound seniors.
While Bosler Memorial Library receives some tax support, private contributions are needed and greatly appreciated to cover more than 22% of the annual cost for the growing demand from the public for programs and services. Because Bosler Memorial Library is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, your donations are tax deductible under the full extent of the law.
To learn about different ways you can make an impact with your gift to Bosler Memorial Library, refer to our Opportunities in Giving brochure.
Please be aware that the Bosler Memorial Library and the Friends of Bosler are separate 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and as such are required by law to maintain separate accounting records. When making a donation, we ask that you do not combine your donations for the two organizations.
