Great Decisions 2018: Global Health: Progress and Challenges

Eight sessions: every other Monday beginning February 5

1:00 pm- 2:30 pm in the Community Room, Lower Level

The collective action of countries, communities and organizations over the last 30 years has literally saved millions of lives around the world. Yet terrible inequalities in health and wellbeing persist. The world now faces a mix of old and new health challenges, including the preventable deaths of mothers and children, continuing epidemics of infectious diseases, and rising rates of chronic disease. We also remain vulnerable to the emergence of new and deadly pandemics. For these reasons, the next several decades will be just as important—if not more so—than the last in determining wellbeing across nations.

Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs. The program model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book, watching the DVD and meeting expert speakers in a Discussion Group to discuss the most critical global issues facing America today. Each year, eight topics are chosen by Foreign Policy Association's panel of experts. In partnership with the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg, this year's discussions will meet every other Monday afternoon at 1:00pm.  Registration is open.  The Daytime Academy is made possible by a grant from Harsco Corporation, honoring the memory of Derek C. Hathaway and his passion for life-long learning.

Cost: $10 per individual session or $50 covers all 8 sessions.  Register with credit card online https://wacharrisburg.ticketleap.com/great-decisions-2018/ or send a check to World Affairs Council of Harrisburg /Walnut St. & N. 4th St/ 234 Strawberry Square/ Harrisburg, PA 17101.
