In addition, there were some special things that happened during the week including:

Faux stained glass art panels

Eight faux stained glass art panels were hung in our children's room windows. The panels were designed by Youth Services Assistant Elaine Klock, and brought to life by the kids who have participated in our Meet the Artists series of programs over the past year. Each panel features a different species of native Pennsylvania wildlife.

Activity panels for preschool children

Through a generous donation from Don and Marjorie Mowery, Youth Services added nine activity panels for preschool children. Located on the ends of several of our shelving units, the panels are designed to help children develop fine motor skills, explore their senses, learn simple science concepts, and develop problem-solving skills.

Art Alley

A new "Art Alley" was created. Located between the Juvenile Fiction and Nonfiction shelves, this alley features posters highlighting some examples of the art created by participants in the Meet the Artists series. Meet the Artists is funded by contributions made through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.

We Rock Garden

Beginning at the Summer Learning Challenge Kickoff in June, children have been given the opportunity to paint rocks to help create the "We Rock Garden" which debuted as part of Celebrate Children's Book Week. You'll find it located near the exterior book drops in the rear of the Library.

Ms. Pinkney's appearance was generously sponsored by Karns Quality Foods.
