From Rhyme Time to STEM Club, the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library offers a variety of children's programs for ages birth through fifth grade. For more information or to register, please call the library at 717-766-0171, email us at, or drop in!

Story Times and Monthly Events

Weekly Story Times - Rhyme Time (for ages birth to 18 months), Toddler Time (for ages 18 months to 3 years), and Story Time (for ages 3 - 6 years) are presented several times a week throughout the year. Family Story Time is presented every Monday at 6:30 pm. Programs are presented live over Zoom and available as recorded videos.

Monthly Events - Kindergarten Club, First Grade Club, LEGO Club, STEM Club, Homeschool Book Discussion, American Girl Club, and Tween Scene occur once a month from September to May. 

Special Events

1000 Books Before Kindergarten - This program is available for any child from birth until he/she enters kindergarten. Make reading time exciting! When your child has reached a milestone, mark it with a sticker from the library. You must register at the library and pick up your reading log. Summer Learning Program - This program lasts for 9 weeks in the summer, running from June to August. We offer reading challenges for children of all ages, as well as weekly special events.  

Kindergarten Readiness Class - Will your child be attending Kindergarten next year? Do you wonder if he or she will be prepared for this experience? Our Kindergarten Readiness Class may just be the answer for you! This series of classes is designed for your child AND you to attend. At each class your child will work on activities created to help him or her make a smooth transition from preschool child to Kindergarten student while you create a new readiness game at each class to take home and play with your child.

Family Place Libraries LogoWe are a Family Place Library. The overall goal of Family Place Libraries is to develop and institutionalize a family friendly environment by transforming libraries into community centers for literacy, early childhood development, parent education and engagement, family support and community information. We have trained staff, parent-child workshops, special space, collections, and programs for babies and children, and collaborate with community organizations.
