Beautify the Barriers Painting Project

Beautify the barriersNear the exit of our parking lot is a line of plain concrete "jersey" barriers. They do their job marking the property line, but they aren't pretty! We are seeking applications from local artists to transform the barriers into artwork this spring! The artwork should tie into 2021's Summer Learning Program theme, "Tails and Tales," and it will be displayed for about a year. The Beautify the Barriers project will be publicly unveiled at the Summer Learning Program kickoff event on June 5, 2021 where artists will be recognized for their creations.

Apply to Beautify the Barriers! Download an application (PDF, 443KB, 4 pages) or pick one up at the library. Completed applications must be received by March 1. Email completed applications to Ilse at, drop them off at the library, or mail to 16 N. Walnut St, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.

Successful applicants must complete their painting during the month of May 2021. The barriers will be painted with a white base coat in April, and bordered with freshly groomed landscaping. Artists are to supply their own materials. Mention the project at Art Depot on Arch Street in Mechanicsburg to receive a discount.
