Starting in January 2026 with 52 weeks of special exhibits, a new wall mural commemorating American democracy, not to speak of events the Founding Fathers could not have fathomed, including World Cup Soccer matches and the All-Star Baseball Game. While the focus is on 2026, we will turn some attention to comparing plans for this commemoration with that of earlier ones, especially 1876, and what changing emphases tell us about America today.
