The John Graham Library needs your support!

We have run out of space to safely and comfortably accommodate the large number of people who attend our programs.  We are forced to hold our larger programs outdoors, where we are at the mercy of the weather.  Smaller programs are held indoors under cramped conditions.

Since our last expansion in 1991, program attendance increased by an unexpected 111%, and circulation of library materials increased by 35%.  In just the last three years - 2015 to 2017 - program attendance increased by 22% and circulation increased by 20%.  Our 2017 programs attracted 5,636 people, for an average of 27 people per event.

The John Graham Library is integral to this rural community, providing a range of free services including:

  • Summer Learning Program & Weekly Storytime:  These programs improve early literacy, stimulate an appreciation for reading, and motivate children to keep reading during the summer.  They have experienced unprecedented growth in recent years, with 363 children and teens participating in the 2018 summer program and an average of 41 preschoolers and their parents attending Storytime each week.
  • Free Internet Access:  People who do not have or cannot afford an internet connection can use our computers and Wi-Fi free of charge to apply for jobs, do research, and take online classes.  In January 2017 we added Wi-Fi hotspots to our collection, and they are available for checkout at no charge.
  • STAR - Service to Adult Readers:  Our STAR program delivers library materials to seniors who are no longer able to come to the library.  We also maintain an extensive collection of large-print and audio books.

With your support, we can retain our historic and relevant facility at 9 Parsonage Street in the center of town.  With your support, we can construct a 30' by 60' addition at an anticipated cost of $350,000 to expand our programming and collection space and add room for the Friends of the John Graham Library to store and sort books for fundraising.

We hope you will favorably consider a gift to fund this vitally needed addition.  Thank you!
