1:00 pm – 2:00 pm in the Small Meeting Room, Lower Level
Join us for our new book discussion series, Moving Forward, geared towards those who have suffered a loss or tragedy and could use an infusion of hope. In cooperation with Hospice of Central PA, we will be reading books focusing on the redemptive power of the human spirit and will meet the first Wednesday of the month.
February’s choice is Umami by Laia Jufresa - a thoughtful, eccentric, and heart-wrenching interwoven story told from the perspective of neighbors living in a mews of five houses in Mexico City. Umami tells the stories of characters who are dealing with mortality, abandonment, and loss. Jufresa crafts a story with warmth and tenderness but also gives insight to the uncanny human talent of engaging in cruel and awkward behavior. Some of the stories told are playful and light, others are tragic. Umami is quirky, insightful, and ultimately tells the stories of humans coping with living next to one another in order to feel less isolated and alone. You must have read or listened to the book to attend. Registration for our February session begins January 2. Ages 18 and older, please.
