Auction Preview starts Oct. 30!

Over 400 items!

Get ready for the gift-giving season by bidding in our 2020 ONLINE Silent Auction! With over 400 items, there is something for everyone! Artwork, gifts, books, children’s items, holiday decor, food, gift cards and certificates, as well as special packages like dental services and beauty treatments all donated by our patrons and local business partners. We are so grateful for the generosity of our community and the 100s of unique items and gift cards they donate.

Since the Friends were not able to do their regular book sales this year, a successful auction is essential to supplement the Library's operating budget and fill the Library's department needs for 2021. Please consider donating to the auction to help us raise funds for:
• Children’s, Teen, and Adult Programming
• Volunteer Appreciation
• Technology Needs to Provide online programming
• Special accommodations to keep our staff safe during COVID 19

Thank you for your support of Fredricksen Library!

Who Are the Friends of Fredricksen?

We’re your neighbors-young, young-at-heart, working and retired who are dedicated to supporting the Fredricksen by volunteering, advocating for library funding and raising funds to help meet the costs of the Fredricksen’s special programs and new equipment. Proceeds from our Spring and Fall Book & Media Sales and Silent Auction will be used in consultation with Library Staff to continue the programming and services offered and to help bring to fruition those in the planning stage. Special thanks to all those who donated books and media for our sales and to those businesses and individuals who donated items and services for our Silent Auction.

At our annual Friends of the Fredricksen Library meeting, the following officers were elected for 2020:

Book Sales – James Cawley

Online Auction – Diane Myers

Donations -

The profits from our semi-annual book sales have been used for:

  • The self-check unit in the Pollock Children’s Library
  • Shelving units and other equipment requested by the Library staff
  • Programs in the Pollock Children’s Library
  • Teen events at Fredricksen
  • Meeting our building fund pledge

book saleWhen you leave your donations at the reference desk, the first step is a quick review by the staff to see if your item might meet a need in the circulating collection or be appropriate for the ongoing book sale. The majority of the books are then sorted by teams of volunteers from the Friends. Once the materials have been sorted, they are packed and stored until the week of the sale.

During the week of the sale, an army of volunteers is needed to erect tables, move books from storage on to the tables, arrange the books so that our shoppers can find the perfect item, and then staff the sale. Finally, when the sale is over, all remaining items are packed for distribution to others who can make use of them:

  • East Pennsboro Friends for their sale
  • Charitable organizations working with children and adults
  • Veterans
  • Overseas missions
  • Day care centers
  • Other libraries

The golden rule when considering a donation is “Would I give this to a Friend?”

The donations appreciated are:

  • Children’s or teen books
  • hard cover fiction or non-fiction
  • dictionaries or thesauruses
  • media in working condition, such as, DVD, music cd, books on cd, video games
  • mass market paperbacks (in “like new” condition copyright 1980 or newer)
  • trade (large) paperbacks
  • textbooks (copyright within 10 years)
  • travel books (copyright within 5 years)
  • large print books.

Please re-evaluate your donations if they:

  • are moldy, dirty or water-damaged
  • have damaged or missing pages
  • have excessive highlighting or markings
