Job description
East Pennsboro Branch Library is seeking a part-time Program Specialist to plan and present educational, entertaining, and enriching in-person library programs and outreach for all ages. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about coordinating and presenting a wide variety of programs, including but not limited to informational/educational programs with our community partners, games, STEAM activities, and story times. The Program Specialist will also be trained on circulation tasks to act as a substitute during staff absences.
Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm weekly and Saturdays once per quarter between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Tuesday through Thursday hours are a set schedule each week; Saturday hours depend on the programming schedule. Must be available to work the library booth at Pumpkin Fest annually on Columbus Day weekend. This is a year-round position. This is not a remote position.
Classification: Part Time/Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $13.00/hour
Essential duties and functions:
- Plans, presents and evaluates programs keeping the goals of the library and the community’s interests as the focus
- Coordinates promotional materials with the supervisor
- Reads professional literature
- Attends staff, county and other professional meetings. Participates in and strengthens library and branch teams. Complies with continuing education requirements
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the supervisor’s discretion
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to develop and present programs
- Ability to be self-motivated, proactive, work independently and make decisions based on good business practices and library philosophy
- Knowledge of local resources to develop programming connections
- Knowledge of basic computer functions and software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
Requirements:
- College degree preferred
- Previous nonprofit experience preferred
- Minimum of one year experience in marketing or related fields required
- Experience working with children required
Physical and Environmental Conditions
Work regularly demands light physical effort in the handling of materials, boxes, carts or equipment, as well as manual dexterity and visual acuity when working with a computer. Regularly lifts and carries books and materials weighing as much as 30 pounds; regularly pushes and pulls carts; regularly bends and reaches for books on top and bottom shelves; regularly uses repetitive movements and views small print when assisting patrons with searches on the computer. Work may require standing for extended periods of time.
Employment Clearances
Must have FBI Fingerprint Clearance, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance and Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance that qualify the individual for employment as outlined in the library system’s Employee Clearances policy.
