Children's Page - Part Time

Position Summary

Cleve J. Fredricksen Library is looking for an individual  whose responsibilities involve shelving, shelf maintenance and a variety of other duties related to the organization and retrieval of library materials; works under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Director.EOE.

 

Pay rate: $9.00 per hour

 

Essential Functions:

  • Shelves library materials using correct shelving procedures and shifts materials as necessary
  • Shelf reads materials as assigned
  • Answers routine directional questions and refers reference, informational or reader’s advisory to appropriate staff members
  • Assists with opening and closing procedures as needed
  • Helps to maintain overall children’s library appearance by filling displays and maintaining a neat and clean area
  • Participates in and strengthens library and branch teams
  • Cross trains as a circulation page for substitution purposes
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the supervisor’s discretion

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and the basic principles of library organization
  • Ability to sort materials in appropriate alphabetical or numerical order and place materials on shelves in accurate order
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

PositionMondays -  5.00pm to 9.00pm and Saturdays - 1.00pm to 5.00pm

 

Requirements: 

Must be age 16 or older.

Ability to place materials in correct alphabetical order or Dewey Decimal order.

Children's Assistant - Part Time

Position Summary

We pride ourselves on extreme customer service. This includes answering reference questions, sharing recommendations and developing engaging programs for kids. Join our team as we create a community at Fredricksen Library!

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assists customers and staff by analyzing inquiries, answering questions, identifying informational sources, recommending materials and instructing use of resources but refers to librarian if unable to locate information
  • Develops internal and external story time and programming ideas and submits to children’s services manager for approval
  • Prepares, writes program announcements, presents and evaluates story times and programming
  • Develops and implements ideas for displays, exhibits, bulletin boards and book lists; assists in preparing signage
  • Assists patrons and staff with all library equipment
  • Assists collection development by analyzing the current collection, assessing the needs, selecting, and purchasing materials in identified collection areas
  • Serves as librarian-in-charge in the absence of the children’s services manager; responsibilities may include but are not limited to opening and closing activities, resolving customer complaints, overseeing circulation functions and directing patrons and staff in emergency situations
  • Supervises children’s pages and volunteers in the absence of the children’s services manager
  • Reads professional literature and maintains current knowledge of children’s reference materials and search tools
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the supervisor’s discretion

 

RequirementsBachelor’s degree, experience with children and excellent verbal and written skills.

 

Position

Wednesdays - 9am to 5pm, Thursdays – 1pm to 9pm, Fridays – 9am to 5pm and every 4th Sunday - 1pm to 5pm

Ability to substitute preferred

 

Pay Rate: $9.14 to $9.32 per hour

Reference Services Librarian - Part Time

Position Summary

Cleve J. Fredricksen Library in Camp Hill is seeking an individual dedicated to creating a positive experience for each library customer. The Reference Services Librarian will actively assist customers with locating materials.  The successful candidate will assist customers with the library catalog and equipment including the use of electronic devices.

Candidates will possess excellent customer service skills, tact and professionalism in communications and the knowledge of reference resources of various formats.

 

Pay Rate: $14.00 per hour

 

Essential Functions:

  • Creates positive experiences for library customers by effectively and efficiently performing job tasks
  • Demonstrates superior public service skills, and an understanding of public library operations.  Supports “customer first” practices.  Proactively seeks to assist customers with finding items.  Circulates the library floor regularly while performing other work duties to actively assist customers.  Demonstrates tact and professionalism in all communications.  Provides accurate information and directional assistance
  • Proficiently performs reference tasks including but not limited to: opening and closing procedures, provides instruction of print and non-print resources; provides library tours; provides basic circulation functions, collects fees; evaluates donations of materials; maintains the overall appearance of the library, operates cash register and credit card machine accurately when receiving payments and making change
  • Assists customers by analyzing inquiries, answering questions, identifying informational sources, recommending materials and instructing use of resources
  • Assists customers with library equipment including the use of e-readers and e-book technology
  • Serves as librarian-in-charge as needed; responsibilities may include but are not limited to directing customers in emergency situations
  • Demonstrates a professional, positive, cooperative, team-oriented working relationship with staff, administration and volunteers; in the absence of the department manager supervises the volunteers assisting with the tasks in reference
  • Markets library programs and events through discussion and distribution of materials and registers customers for programs
  • Attends staff, county and other professional meetings.  Participates in and strengthens library and branch teams.  Complies with continuing education requirements.  Stays current with Cumberland County Library System and Cleve J. Fredricksen Library policies and procedures
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the supervisor’s discretion

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills;  Requires the ability to handle customer complaints, difficult situations, and the challenges presented by customers
  • Knowledge of computer functions and software; Must be able to learn and become skilled with library equipment, technology and software as required to effectively and efficiently perform essential functions
  • Knowledge of standard reference sources in various formats
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of reference and reader’s advisory services
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and professionalism in all communications

Education:

  • M.L.S. equivalent or a BA including 12 hours of library science
  • Experience in a public library setting preferred

Hours:

Fridays 8.30am to 1.00pm and every fourth weekend rotation of Saturday - 12.30pm to 5.00pm

Ability to substitute preferred
