Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2017 Celebrate Children's Book Week! We hope you had a wonderful experience! Watch for details about our 2018 Celebrate Children's Book Week which will be part of the 2018 Celebrate the Book Week! in October 2018.
The Bosler Memorial Library hosted its first-ever Celebrate Children's Book Week from October 15 to October 21, 2017.
The week-long event featured a visit from acclaimed children's author, Andrea Davis Pinkney, a reception with illustrator, Amy Bates, a breakfast with author, Matt Novak, a program with featured storyteller, Fiona Powell, and a visit from a very special canine friend, Libre.
There were special programs held throughout the week including the library's first-ever Escape Room, Flip Book program and Make-It, Take-It activities in the Youth Services Department.
In addition, there were some special things that happened during the week including:
Eight faux stained glass art panels were hung in our children's room windows. The panels were designed by Youth Services Assistant Elaine Klock, and brought to life by the kids who have participated in our Meet the Artists series of programs over the past year. Each panel features a different species of native Pennsylvania wildlife.
Through a generous donation from Don and Marjorie Mowery, Youth Services added nine activity panels for preschool children. Located on the ends of several of our shelving units, the panels are designed to help children develop fine motor skills, explore their senses, learn simple science concepts, and develop problem-solving skills.
A new "Art Alley" was created. Located between the Juvenile Fiction and Nonfiction shelves, this alley features posters highlighting some examples of the art created by participants in the Meet the Artists series. Meet the Artists is funded by contributions made through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.
Beginning at the Summer Learning Challenge Kickoff in June, children have been given the opportunity to paint rocks to help create the "We Rock Garden" which debuted as part of Celebrate Children's Book Week. You'll find it located near the exterior book drops in the rear of the Library.
Ms. Pinkney's appearance was generously sponsored by Karns Quality Foods.
The Reception with the Illustrator and Breakfast with the Author were made possible through generous support from F&M Trust.
