The featured poet for this event is Alice Mackenzie Swaim. The reading will showcase her work throughout her writing journeys. An “open mic” session will follow the featured readings. Participants are invited to share their own poetry or read poetry from their favorite poet. No registration is needed.

Alice Mackenzie Swaim lived in Mount Holly Springs from 1940-1951. During this time, Alice started writing poetry to occupy her time resulting from health issues that left her bedridden. Between 1947 until her death in 1996, she earned more than 800 poetry awards and wrote over 8000 poems. Her poetry is featured in A Poet for the Ages-Alice Mackenzie Swaim-A Renaissance of Her Timeless Poems Selected and Compiled by Joan Prescott. This book was written in 2008 and is still in print.
