Gardening with Nature Workshops
Fredricksen Library has teamed up with Penn State Master Gardeners, the Yellow Breeches Watershed Association and Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay to bring you a series of workshops that will show you how to garden with nature. Door Prizes will be given out at each workshop; and there are additional opportunities to win a hand-painted rain barrel (Grand Prize - must be present to win) with each class attended. Cost per (April-Sept) workshop $5.00 each; sign up for all 11 sessions for $40.00 and save $5.00. Registration for all programs begins February 1. First (3/5/12) and Last (10/1/12) Workshops FREE. Gardening with Nature: Healthy Lawn Care
Tuesday, May 21 from 7 to 8:30 pm
Penn State Master Gardener, Greg Gnatt, shows you how an attractive lawn can be achieved without excessive fertilizer, water, or labor. Learn about the best ways to make small changes in your lawn care routine that will not only reduce pollution in our local streams, the Susquehanna River basin, and the Chesapeake Bay watershed, but also save you time and money. eBooksHub @ Fredricksen
Every Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm AND 5:00 to 6:30 pm
The reference staff will offer expertise on portable electronic devices and ebooks at the e-Books Hub, located at the reference desk. We can show you how to download ebooks through the library system as well as answer general questions about device usage. We also have a variety of devices on hand for demonstration: Kindle Touch, Nook Touch, Kindle Fire, Nook Color and an iPad. If you are looking to buy a device, we encourage you to come and ask questions and check out our devices. Feel free to bring your device on your quest for help. We look forward to seeing you at the “Hub”! There is no registration if you are coming from 1 to 3 pm. Blood Pressure Screenings
Thursdays from 9:15 am to 1:00 pm
Holy Spirit Hospital has partnered with Fredricksen Library to offer free Blood Pressure Screenings. For your convenience, 3 parking spaces are reserved near the main entrance.

Fredricksen Library Tours
Trained volunteers guide a small group of pre-registered patrons through the library. At the end of the tour, each participant will receive a folder full of library information, with contact numbers in case there are even more questions. Call 761-3900 x 225 for more information.  Underwritten by Altrusa Club.

Tuesdays: May 7 through August 27 from 6 to 7 pm
Do you have some unanswered gardening questions and don't know where to turn? Just stop in at the Fredricksen Library anytime from 6 to 7 pm every Tuesday evening (May 7 – August 27). The Master Gardeners from Penn State Cooperative Extension will be there eagerly waiting to solve your gardening mysteries and help you to have the best garden possible!

Fredricksen Reads Strangers by Anita Brookner

Become a part of Fredricksen Reads, our series of book discussions. In Strangers, Paul is resigned to his bachelorhood and the quietude of his London flat. Fredricksen’s Bus Trip to the National Book Festival in D.C.
Saturday, September 21 at 7:00 am
Join us as we travel to the 13th annual National Book Festival, organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., rain or shine. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to meet with famous authors, mingle with other readers and writers and find out more about literary events and services.
Price includes: round trip motor coach transportation from Camp Hill, boxed continental breakfast served en route to Washington, D.C., free time to explore and participate in the National Book Festival, and gratuity for bus driver. The bus departs Camp Hill at 7am. Cost: $48.00 per person. Register in person or online beginning June 1!

Gardening with Nature: Water-wise Gardening

Penn State Master Gardener, John Shellenberger, teaches you about designing your garden to use plants and gardening techniques that can help you save on water usage in the garden not only during the hot, dry spells in summer but also year-round. Monthly Blood Drives at Fredricksen
Friday, June 7 from 4 pm to 7:30 pm
Donating blood may be one of the most important things you’ve ever done. Just one pint of your blood can save as many as four lives. Come and donate in Fredricksen's lower parking lot (Walnut Street). The Central PA Blood Bank will be here the first Friday of every month. It is a safe and easy process which takes approximately 45 minutes. Generally, anyone age 16 or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good health, can donate blood. If you have any questions about donating, call Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank at 1-800-771-0059 or visit www.cpbb.org.

Twisted Stitchers

Join us for an informal and fun gathering centered around knitting and crochet. Meet others who love crochet and knitting while making progress on your favorite project. Trinidad & Tobago Steel Drums
Thursday, June 13 at 7 pm
Trinidad & Tobago Baltimore Steel Orchestra starts the 2013 Summer Concerts on the Lawn with a dynamic evening as they bring a touch of the Caribbean to the Fredricksen Library. This stunning group, named Baltimore's official steel drum band, are masters of the steel drum. Their vivacious tropical music rounds out a lively show for all ages. Don't miss the vibrant kickoff to this year's Summer Concerts on the Lawn Series! (Rain date: Thurs., June 20 at 7:00 pm)

Free Dental Day
Friday, June 14 from 8 am to 5 pm
On June 14th, Camp Hill Dentists Brice Arndt and Robert Kolts will host a day of free dental service at their office located at 3975 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, to anyone in need of such care. Patients will be seen on a first-come, first served basis. Business sponsors will donate a portion of the total value of the services provided to Fredricksen Library. Other activities will be featured during the day, so visit the dentist to benefit your library! Call 761-1352 for more information.

Fredricksen Reads Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks

Indie Film Friday: Call for Title

The library offers a collection of digital titles, both print and audio, that are accessible on computers, tablets, smartphones, e-readers and more. This program will highlight the variety of ways there are to download, access and enjoy these materials. No registration necessary.
