June Invasion!

Book cover: D-Day
Now illustrated with an extraordinary collection of over 125 photos, Stephen E. Ambrose’s D-Day is the definitive history of World War II’s most pivotal battle, June 6, 1944, the day that changed the course of history.
D-Day is the epic story of men at the most demanding moment of their lives, when the horrors, complexities, and triumphs of life are laid bare. Distinguished historian Stephen E. Ambrose portrays the faces of courage and heroism, fear and determination—what Eisenhower called “the fury of an aroused democracy”—that shaped the victory of the citizen soldiers whom Hitler had disparaged.

Celebrating Frank Lloyd Wright

Book cover: Frank Lloyd Wright: Inside and Out
Magnificent, oversized pictures open the doors into 100 of the famed architect’s most revered creations. Color photographs, indoors and out, show how Wright’s famous glass windows looked to residents and passersby; how materials used on the exterior affected the interior; how space could soar in a building that seemed to hug the ground; and how nature was integrated into all his designs. Succinct profiles reveal the stories behind Wright’s own home in Oak Park; the prairie-style Dana House; the exquisite Fallingwater; and other landmarks.

Influential Shutterbugs

Book cover: America through the Lens
"If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera."-Lewis Hine
A stunning view of America as captured by groundbreaking photographers.
American history is punctuated by defining moments-some proud, some tragic, some beautiful. Photography has made it possible for these moments to be captured and shared with the public. As the craft has evolved from unwieldy glass negatives to digital imagery, the photographs themselves have changed the way we see the world.
From Mathew Brady's startling Civil War photographs to NASA's stunning images of the universe, this book highlights twelve photographers whose work has truly changed the nation.

Heroism In Different Form

Book cover: Sgt. Reckless: America's war horse
Describes the small Mongolian mare and celebrated hero of the Korean War who helped the American war effort by carrying wounded soldiers and making multiple trips across combat zones to deliver supplies. The four-legged equine braved minefields and hailing shrapnel to deliver ammunition to her division on the frontlines. In one day alone, performing fifty-one trips up and down treacherous terrain, covering a distance of over thirty-five miles, and rescuing wounded comrades-in-arms, Reckless demonstrated her steadfast devotion to the Marines who had become her herd.
Despite only measuring about thirteen hands high, this pint-sized equine became an American hero. Reckless was awarded two Purple Hearts for her valor and was officially promoted to staff sergeant twice, a distinction never bestowed upon an animal before or since.
