October Book Sale-
October book sale on Saturday, October 23, 9 am to 2 pm and Sunday, October 24, 1 pm to 3 pm at Books by the Gross, 400 Cheryl Avenue, Mechanicsburg.
"Members Only" preview on Friday, October 22 from 6-8 pm. Invitations to Preview Night will be mailed in mid-September to our current Friends of the Library members. Memberships may also be purchased at the door at Preview Night. There is a purchase limit of 25 items per membership at Preview Night.
BOOKS BY THE GROSS is located in the rear of the John Gross Administrative Building. As you face the main entrance, it is located on the left, in the back of the building. Parking is availabe at the back of the building.
More than 10,000 books availabe for purchase at great prices! Bag Sale on Sunday means all the books you can fit in a level bag for only $8.00! (Some restrictions apply. Paper bags supplied by the Friends of the Library.)
Mini-Book Sale at the Library EVERYDAY!
Did you know? Books are available for purchase at the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library at 16 North Walnut Street every hour that the library is open! On the Upper Level you can purchase books for adults and teens. On the Lower Level, we have a collection of children's books available for purchase. Be sure to check out the mini-booksale frequently as the shelves are restocked on a weekly basis.
Friends of the Library Book Sale and Donation Drop Off Location - Books by the Gross
All book donations should be delivered to Book Donation Drop Off Center, just two blocks from the library, located at 400 Cheryl Avenue, Mechanicsburg, near The Grossery, in the John Gross Administrative Building. Look for the signs! Please DO NOT drop them off at the Library.

Donations in the following subject areas are especially needed:
Fiction, Romance, Mystery, Art, Gardening, Military, Science Fiction, Civil War, Cookbooks, History, Literature (including poetry, drama, classics) and Children's books. Videocassettes, DVDs, and audiobooks would be appreciated too.
Book Donation Guidelines:
The quality of the books available for purchase at our book sales is only as good as the quality of the donations that we receive throughout the year. If you have books you would like to donate, please follow these guidelines:
1. We welcome your donation of books, music and spoken cassettes, Books on CD, videos and DVDs that are in good condition. Hardcover and paperback books are needed, both fiction and nonfiction, as well as books for children and teens.
2. We are unable to use the following:
Textbooks, Encyclopedias, Magazines & Reader's Digest Condensed Books or wet, damaged, musty, mildewed, or moldy books as they may contaminate other books. Also books that are torn or "marked up" with pen, pencil or highlighters are not suitable for re-sale.
