Cleve J. Fredricksen Library hosted a Volunteer Fair on Tuesday, September 13th. Over 600 community members visited the library to learn about the various volunteer opportunities within our community. In our atrium, 23 organizations informed and educated those attending about the needs within our area. The library thanks all the organizations and attendees for making this a true community event. Altrusa International of South Central PA
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Altrusa is an organization dedicated to ‘Building a Better Community’ through service to our communities. Altrusa’s main focus is on literacy however, we do many projects to assist our communities through projects working with the handicapped. Our club sponsors scholarships for graduating HS Seniors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Big Brothers Big Sisters is always in need of adult mentors to spend one on one time with a child facing adversity. Being a Big Brother Big Sister is one of the most enjoyable things you’ll ever do. Not to mention one of the most fulfilling. You have the opportunity to shape a child’s future for the better by empowering him or her to achieve.
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Volunteers are needed to make craft kits, sort/categorize books, do office work, hold craft drives, help at fundraisers, sew tote bags, and work in our warehouse.

Summary of Volunteer Needs: The library welcomes the energies and talents of engaged volunteers. Our needs include, but are not limited to, shelving materials, check in materials, Adopt-a-Shelf, Traveling Tales Tellers, Homework Club, searching shelves for materials and Coffee Corner baristas.

Summary of Volunteer Needs: Companionship for Terminally Ill Patients – music therapy, art therapy, pet therapy, massage and beauticians.
East Pennsboro Branch Library
Summary of Volunteer Needs: The library welcomes the energies and talents of engaged volunteers. Our needs include, but are not limited to, shelving materials, check in materials, searching shelves for materials and dusting.
Family Promise of Harrisburg Capital Region
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Making meals – spending time with families experiencing homelessness – sleeping overnight – driving our van – volunteering at our Day Center and committee/Board work.

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Harrisburg Habitat uses volunteers on construction sites, home repairs, our ReStore and also occasional at our administrative office.
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Many volunteer needs for patient support and limited needs for bereavement support and admin support. Homeland Hospice serves all of South Central PA, with opportunities for volunteers to serve in the community in which they live.
Hospice of Central Pennsylvania
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Seeking volunteers to join our patient care team, these volunteers offer emotional support and companionship to patients, respite for caregivers or practical help such as running errands. We also have administrative support volunteers to help out in the office. HCP provides extensive training and ongoing support to our volunteers and always works around their schedule.
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Office volunteers – patient care volunteers – Vet to Vet volunteers, Pet therapy volunteers, craft makers (sewing, crocheting, knitting, drawing, painting) and singers.
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Need an individual with nutritional background. Also, groups physically able to stand, lift etc. (corporate service day groups accepted).

Summary of Volunteer Needs: Adult leaders, ages 21 and up, for community based scout groups, merit badges counselors and local district committee work.

The PROGRAM – “It’s About Change”

Susquehanna Art Museum
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Seeking volunteers to serve as receptionists to greet guests and complete gift shop transactions. We are also looking for volunteers to be gallery hosts in the main gallery. Gallery hosts answer questions about the current exhibitions and general museum questions. We are looking for people to fill shifts in the afternoons and weekends.
Susquehanna Folk Music Society
Summary of Volunteer Needs: Susquehanna Folk volunteers make it happen! Volunteers are needed to staff events such as concerts, dances, jams and workshops.
