STEM/Outreach Coordinator - Part Time

Cleve J. Fredricksen  Library is looking for an individual who can perform a variety of programming services to meet the needs of the customers in the Create Space. The focus will be on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for grades K-5.  The individual will report directly to the Children’s Services Manager. EOE.


Essential Functions:


1.   Assists customers and staff in the Create Space by analyzing inquiries, answering questions, identifying informational sources, recommending  materials and        instructing use of resources but refers to librarian if unable to locate information

2.   Develops internal and external STEM focused programming ideas and submits to children’s services manager for approval

3.   Prepares, writes program announcements, presents and evaluates STEM programming

4.   Assists patrons and staff with all library and Create Space equipment. Maintains knowledge of Create Space equipment and performs basic troubleshooting as needed

5.   Ensures that Create Space has needed supplies by analyzing used supplies, assessing the needs, selecting, and purchasing materials

6.   Serves as librarian-in-charge in the absence of the children’s services manager; responsibilities may include but are not limited to opening and closing activities,resolving customer complaints, overseeing circulation functions and directing patrons and staff in emergency situations

7.   Supervises Create Space volunteers in the absence of the children’s services manager

8.   Serves as ambassador to library’s service area by representing the library at community events and creating connections with businesses and other organizations to enrich library services and promote the library to the community

9.   Reads professional literature and maintains current knowledge of children’s educational methods and best practices for makerspaces. Enriches knowledge through continuing education as requested

10.  Attends staff, county and other professional meetings representing the library.  Participates in and strengthens library and branch teams.  Complies with continuing education requirements

11.  Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the supervisor’s discretion


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


1.     Excellent verbal and written communication skills

2.     Ability to be self-motivated, proactive, work independently and make decisions based on good business practices and library philosophy

3.     Ability to develop and present age appropriate STEM programs

4.     Knowledge of children’s materials and interests

5.     Knowledge of principles and practices of libraries

6.     Knowledge of basic computer functions and software

7.     Friendly and professional demeanor

8.     Creative thinking skills

9.     Ability to supervise staff using effective business and motivational models

10.   Excellent organizational skills



·           Bachelor’s degree preferred

·           Previous experience interacting with children in a professional setting preferred

·           Instructional experience or interest in STEM preferred


Pay Rate: $10.00 per hour


Position: TBD with mainly evenings and afternoons. 20 hours/week

Children's Assistant - Part Time (Position 2)

Position Summary

Cleve J. Fredricksen Library is seeking a friendly customer service individual to assist in the children’s library. Duties include development & presentation of events, answering questions & assisting in maintenance of collections. EOE.



Tues - 9am to 5pm ; Thurs - 9am to 5pm and every fourth Sunday - 1pm to 5pm.



Ability to develop and present age appropriate children's story times and events

Knowledge of children's materials

Knowledge of basic computer skills

Bachelor's degree with some library science preferred

Previous experience interacting with children in a professional setting preferred


$9.14 to $9.32 per hour
