On Saturday, March 31, our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held to thank our many volunteers for their hard work and dedication to our library. Over 200 volunteers enjoyed music, food and fellowship. A thank-you also goes to the underwriters of this event: Thomas Malin, M.D., Gregg and Bette Aversa, and the Friends of Fredricksen Library.
Kathy Bard of Fredricksen Library and Jo Ann Buchholz of East Pennsboro Branch were honored as the nominated United Way Volunteers of the Year, and many volunteers were acknowledged for their hundreds of hours of service. Fredricksen's first wedding!
On Sunday, February 19, Fredricksen hosted the library’s first ever wedding ceremony. Donna Klein, the bride, contacted Director Bonnie Goble about having her wedding to Ron Hoffman, the groom to be, at the library. The answer was an enthusiastic: yes! Fredricksen’s beautiful atrium provided the perfect backdrop for this wonderful event. Camp Hill Mayor Mark Simpson officiated. Donna’s mother was “Skyped” in to the event, and “attended” via a laptop in the front row, from which she could see the ceremony via her own computer. Guests were asked to give library donations in lieu of wedding gifts, and the Hoffmans made a generous donation as well. And they lived happily ever after!

Where’s the Free Table?
First, we would like to thank you for all the donations of books, DVDs, videos, puzzles and games. Many new and gently-used donations have been added to the library collection, sold on the daily book sale table in the upstairs, used as prizes for children’s and adult programs and used in the Friends of Fredricksen or Friends of East Pennsboro book sales.
In the past, some donated materials had been available to the public for free. These items were displayed on a table in the library lower lobby.
Fredricksen Library has now begun to partner with the Tri-County OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Centers) Adult Learning Center to give those donations a new home. Since 1965, Tri-County OIC Adult Learning Center has provided quality academic, vocational, workforce, and family education classes to more than 1,200 students each year at 20 sites in Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry, and York counties. Their mission is to deliver high quality, learner-focused education and training services. They accomplish this by capitalizing on the experience of staff, the support of their partners, and the resources of the community. Through education they help students become better workers, better citizens, and better family members. At OIC, they train people for life. The donated books they now receive from Fredricksen library will support this mission.
