"eBooksHub" Arrives at Fredricksen
Did you know that you can download library eBooks, accessed from Fredricksen Library’s home page, to your eReader or iPad? Capital Area Library District offers a great selection of books in downloadable media for Fredricksen Library patrons, and all you need is a valid Cumberland County library card to get started in a whole new direction of library patronage.
The Reference Department at Fredricksen Library is pleased to announce the arrival of “eBooksHub”, a learning center focused on helping patrons navigate through the Capital Area Library District eBook download process. Beginning weekly on Friday, December 30 from 1:00-3:00 pm, Reference Staff will offer a kiosk at the Fredricksen library entrance dedicated to helping patrons who have questions regarding Library System eBook downloads.

SELF-SERVICE HOLDS COMING IN JANUARY!
Borrowers no longer have to wait in long lines to pick up their requested materials. Instead, you’ll be able to stop in and pick up your materials from the holds shelving out on the library floor, using our secure and private system.
How do I find my items?
All holds will be shelved using the first three letters of the borrower’s last name combined with the last four digits of the borrower’s library card. EXAMPLE:
If you are John Smith, with card number 23036001234567, your holds would have this notation on the spine:  SMI 4567
Tan and green dividers on the shelves mark the beginning of each letter of the alphabet for your added convenience in picking up your holds. Once you have retrieved your requested materials from the shelves on the floor, use the Self-Checkout machine or take the materials to the Circulation Desk for check-out as usual. If you need assistance, a staff member will be happy to help you.

A Tribute to Charles Dickens
Tuesday, February 7 at 7 pm

Celebrate Charles Dickens’ 200th birthday, with actor/storyteller Steve Anderson. Just how popular was Dickens in his day? Why did he decide to give up writing, and why did he change his mind? Did he really invent the Victorian Christmas? And what is a humbug, anyway? No registration required.
