February 2011

Back by popular demand!
2nd Annual Birdie for Books Community Event & Fundraiser - Mini Golf @ Fredricksen Library
In Memory of Heath L. Allen
Saturday, February 26th from 10am to 6pm
Rain, Snow, or Shine - Support your Library!

On Saturday, February 26th, the Fredricksen Library will be transformed into our famous, custom-designed mini-golf course! Come play 18 challenging holes inside the Library, featuring sand traps, spiraling tubing, and menacing greens. It’s a fun fundraiser that will also help the Library offset state cuts for 2011.
Last year’s event was a resounding success – over 230 adults and children of all ages came out to play what one participant called “one of the most challenging and fun miniature golf courses I ever played.” The course will cover both floors of the Library, complete with hazards and decorations built by local businesses and students. The Cleveland Brothers 19th Hole Café will feature music, food, drinks, games, raffle prizes, and more!
Tickets are $10 per person, and families of four pay $30, with only an additional $5 per person over 4 family members.
So bring the whole family for a fun event that will help support the Fredricksen Library! Hole, Tee, and Fairway sponsorships are also available. The Library will be open for mini-golf but be closed for regular business on Saturday, February 26th for this fundraiser.  For additional information, please contact Development Coordinator Jesse McCree at 717-761-3900 ext. 244, or e-mail: jmccree@ccpa.net

Looking for a similar read to your favorite fiction author?
Like Jodi Picoult but are all caught up with her novels, anxiously waiting for her next release, Sing You Home?
Enjoy Clive Cussler, but are looking for a new author with a similar writing style?
Fredricksen Library now provides ‘read-a-like’ shelf markers within the shelves of our fiction section, highlighting authors such as Nelson DeMille, Ken Follett, and Barbara Kingsolver. Under the names of these authors, we suggest authors with a similar writing style, providing you with the possibility of discovering a new author to enjoy.
Still can’t find what you are looking for? Visit the information desk at Fredricksen; the reference staff is available to match you with an author that is similar to one of your favorites, offering you the possibilities of reading something new and finding a new author you love!

Explore Your Future: Life After Retirement
4 Mondays, February 28 – 3/21 at 7 pm

The Explore Your Future course consists of four class sessions of two hours each that are specially designed to help “seasoned” adults to examine life options and to plan their futures. It is a fun and motivating course for individuals who are willing to do some serious work in uncovering their own passions, values, motivators and aspirations—and who are open to the idea that age is no barrier to fulfilling them.  The workshops will be led by facilitators Kathy Silks and Kay Dowhower, who have been trained by Coming of Age, a Philadelphia-based, national initiative to promote civic engagement for people ages 50 and older. Cost: $20 for four sessions, which includes materials and refreshments.
Register ONLINE starting February 1.
