The 29-voice Towne Singers present the “Now We Sing of Christmas” concert Saturday, Dec. 15, at Messiah United Methodist Church, 30 S. Penn St., Shippensburg.
The choral program of sacred and secular music of the season benefits the Shippensburg Public Library's capital campaign by means of a freewill offering.
Blaine Shover, professor of music at Shippensburg University, conducts The Towne Singers. He is also the director for the SU Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers and was director for 45 years of The Concord Chamber Singers of Bethlehem.
Accompanist for the Towne Singers is Valerie Merriman, Chambersburg. Soloists include Don Dickinson, Elinor Burrell and Paul Dickerson. Nancy Fogelsanger performs as organist and in a piano duet with Merriman.
Repertoire for the program will include arrangements of traditional carols, including "Wexford Carol," "Angels We Have Heard on High" and "Mary Had a Baby," as well as familiar secular Christmas favorites such as "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," "Caroling, Caroling" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
Proceeds support Shippensburg Public Library's capital campaign for the renovation and expansion of the library's facility. To date, about half of the $6.6 million goal has been raised through individual and business contributions and grants.
