Summer Learning Challenges

2017 Summer Learning Challenge

Children’s Learning Challenge – How it works:

·         READ at your own pace, alone or with someone.  You can read a book, a magazine, or the back of the cereal box.  You can listen to a book on CD, or check out a graphic novel.

Parents:  Don’t forget that reading to your child (or with your child) can also be counted.

·         Color, initial or mark one gear on the enclosed reading log for every 20 minutes you read.  Beginning June 19th, you can bring your reading log in and collect a Gold Coin for every 20 minutes you’ve read.  Continue reporting your reading all summer long to earn more Coins, up to 50 Coins total.

·         On June 19th, we’ll open our 5 and Dime Counter, where you’ll be able to trade in your coins to buy small prizes.  OR, save all or some of your coins until the end of the summer to buy a bigger prize at our Summer Learning Challenge Store.  Bigger prizes will be on display in the Youth Services Room throughout the summer, and the store will have its Grand Opening at our Final Festival on Friday, August 25th.  Remember, the prizes at the SLC Store are bigger, but the quantities are limited.  When they’re gone, they’re gone.  So plan your spending, and saving, carefully.

·         Summer Learning Challenge earning ends August 13, so be sure to turn in all your reading minutes and collect your coins by 5:00pm that day!
