Susan Sanders, director of the Shippensburg Public Library, was guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Shippensburg Kiwanis Club. She discussed the status of the Capital Campaign for renovations and an addition to the library. She also talked about a grant the library received from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund to help with construction expenses.
The grant supports new heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, electrical upgrades and the construction of an elevator to help make the library handicap-accessible. She also discussed the increase in the number of community residents who have been using the library, including young children attending reading programs.
The club presented two checks to Sanders. One was to support library operations, and the other was the second installment of the $5,000 pledged by the club to the Capital Campaign. Joe Cretella, club president, said the Kiwanis Club also supports the library’s summer reading program.
