Whitaker Fund for Math and Science Education gives $66,000 in grants

The Whitaker Fund for Math & Science Education, a fund of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities has announced its second round of 2013 grant awards.


The fund supports nonprofit organizations and educational institutions that offer programs and services that lead to math and science proficiency and literacy.


Awards are:

  • Audubon Pennsylvania, $5,000 for Audubon's Science & Environmental Toolkit (working with teachers and students in Dauphin County)
  • Bosler Library, $4,200 for math and science discovery centers
  • Harrisburg Academy Foundation, $8,200 for robotics equipment for the innovation lab
  • Joshua Group, $15,000 for the Joshua Learning Center Computer Lab
  • Purple Feet Foundation, $4,350 for the thinc Program and Community Science Night
  • Retired Senior Volunteer Program of the Capital Region, $10,000 for the “Crypto-CrimeZONE” summer program
  • St. Theresa School, $1,667 for technology enhancements for the middle school science classroom
  • Tri County Opportunities Industrialization Center, $4,000 for the “Science - Experiment with Fun” afterschool program
  • West Shore Christian Academy, $9,500 for the STEM Improvement Plan for science lab renovations and technology upgrades
  • YWCA of Greater Harrisburg, $5,000 for “TechGYRLS”
