The World of Downton Abbey

Downton AbbeyJoin us on Tuesday, September 10, for Entails, Coattails, and Cocktails: The World of Downton Abbey, a witf Mind Matters presentation.

This lecture and Q&A program is presented by witf and Dr. Jennifer Nesbitt, Associate Professor at Penn State York.

The characters are compelling. The setting so detailed you can almost touch the furniture. But just how true to the period and the history is Downton Abbey?

  • How were women’s roles changing in the early part of the twentieth century, especially after World War I?
  • What was it like to live on one of England’s great estates?
  • How were social, economic and political conditions changing the way all classes of English society led their lives and planned their futures?
  • How were new technologies changing the way people lived, and what was the state of indoor plumbing?

You will be able to interact with Dr. Nesbitt and ask questions at the presentation on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, from 2:00 - 3:15 pm.

RSVP TODAY, by calling the Simpson Library at (717) 766-0171
