Book Sales are held at Books by the Gross, 400 Cheryl Avenue, Mechanicsburg, located in the rear of the John Gross Administrative Building. As you face the main entrance, Books By the Gross is located on the left, in the back of the building. Parking is available at the back of the building.

 

"Members Only" preview from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on the night before the sale. Invitations to Preview Night are mailed one month prior to the sale to current Friends' members. Memberships may be purchased at the door at Preview Night. Purchase limit of 25 items per membership at Preview Night.

 

Bag Sale - All the books you can fit in a level bag for only $10.00! Some restrictions apply. Paper bags supplied by the Friends of the Library.

Mini-Book Sale at the Library EVERY DAY!

Did you know? Books are available for purchase at the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library at 16 North Walnut Street every hour that the library is open! On the Upper Level you can purchase books for adults and teens. On the Lower Level, we have a collection of children's books available for purchase. Be sure to check out the mini-booksale frequently as the shelves are restocked on a weekly basis.

 

Book Sale and Donation Drop Off Location - Books by the Gross

All book donations should be delivered to Book Donation Drop Off Center, just two blocks from the library, located at 400 Cheryl Avenue, Mechanicsburg, near The Grossery, in the John Gross Administrative Building. Look for the signs! Please DO NOT drop them off at the Library.

Book Donation Guidelines

The quality of the books available for purchase at our book sales is only as good as the quality of the donations that we receive throughout the year. If you have items you would like to donate, please follow these guidelines:

 

 

The donations appreciated are:

 

  • Children’s and teen books
  • Hardcover and paperback fiction and non-fiction
  • Media in working condition, such as: DVDs, music CDs, books on CD, video games
  • Textbooks (copyright within 5 years) that show minimal wear and tear
  • Travel books (copyright within 3 years)
  • Large print books
  • Games and puzzles
     

Materials that would be better donated to another charity of your choice:

 

  • Records
  • Cassettes
  • VHS tapes
  • Older textbooks
  • Encyclopedias
  • Magazines
  • Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
 

Please re-evaluate your donations if they are:

 

  • Moldy, dirty or water-damaged
  • Damaged or missing pages
  • Marked with underlining/highlighting of text

 

 

  

 

 

Donations in the following subject areas are especially needed - Fiction, Romance, Mystery, Art, Gardening, Military, Science Fiction, Civil War, Cookbooks, History, Literature (including poetry, drama, classics) and Children's books. DVDs, music CDs, audio CDs, and jigsaw puzzles are also needed.
