Gene WentzOn November 20, at 2:00 pm, Dr. Daniel Felix presents his book about his father-in-law: A Scout for E Company: The Story of PFC Gene Wentz

The book is a modest effort to record the story about a young farm boy from Bedford County who was drafted in the U.S. Army at 18 years of age but had the chance to stay home and help on the family farm which was an acceptable form of alternative service; a story about a boy, who ultimately became a man as he fought in central Italy in the 36th Division. His adventure ended and a life-and-death struggle began after getting gunned down by German machine-gunners.  While by no means unique, given the millions of Americans who headed to all corners of the Earth during World War II, his brush with death is a story that needs to be told. A Purple Heart and Silver Star recipient, Gene Wentz, like many others, paid a high price for our freedom and it’s important that we share this piece of history.
