Film Forward Film & Discussion: The Rocket

FILM FORWARD promotes cultural dialogue through independent documentary and narrative film, using film’s unique ability to tell stories that explore universal themes to ignite meaningful conversations.  Come enjoy the films and if you wish, stay after for discussion. FILM FORWARD is an initiative of the Sundance Institute and the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

In the multi-award-winning film, The Rocket, a boy who is believed to bring bad luck leads his family (and a couple of ragged misfits) through Laos to find a new home. After a calamity-filled journey through a land scarred by war, the boy builds a giant rocket to prove he's not cursed and to enter the most lucrative but dangerous competition of the year: a rocket festival.  Come enjoy the film and stay afterwards to discuss its implications with Dr. David Witwer (7pm showing only), Professor of History at Penn State Harrisburg. Not recommended for those under age 17 without an adult. (unrated)
