Teen Events @ Fredricksen

Dear Fredricksen Teens,

Well, it’s time to close the book on another great Summer Reading Program.  Fredricksen Teens read over 600 books this summer and attended 48 programs!  The big hits of the summer were The Book Thief movie, John Green Fandom day and our Video Game/Board Game Days.  Next summer we will return strong with our annual tie dye program, video game days, weekly movies and more fun to fit into our 2015 heroes theme “Unmask”.

September is the perfect time to reacquaint yourself with the Fredricksen Library resources that will help you to succeed this school year.  We have a great selection of reference materials for in-library use, non-fiction books available for checkout and online databases for everything from Literary Criticism to SAT prep.  And, in case you have some time left over after finishing your school work, we have a top-notch selection of new Teen fiction and Teen favorites.

If you are preparing to take your Learners Permit and Drivers License Tests you won’t want to miss out on our new online resource for Free Practice Learner’s Permit Tests!  Using this resource you will be able to take multiple practice tests with questions just like the ones PennDOT asks, including tests that focus just on Road Signs.  Plus, you can access the often hard-to-find official Pennsylvania Drivers Manual.  All of this is FREE!!!  Let Fredricksen be part of your road to driving success!

I very much enjoyed getting to know many of you over the summer but I don’t want to wait until next June to see you again.  Please try to fit some of these great programs into your fall schedules:

Divergent (The Movie) – Sunday, September 7th at 1:30pm

The Fault in Our Stars (The Movie) – Sunday, October 5th at 1:00pm

The LEGO Movie and LEGO Minute to Win It – Saturday, October 18th at 1:00pm

Altered Book Art Teen Craft – Sunday, November 2nd at 1:30pm

Maleficent (The Movie) – Saturday, November 8th at 1:30pm

We also host a monthly Teen Writers Group, Teen Read Week celebrations in October and weekly NaNoWriMo meetings in November.  Check the events calendar for more information on these events.

And don’t forget that our Teen Advisory Board is always accepting new members.  Our TAG Blue group, for teens in grades 10-12, will meet on Sunday, September 7th from 4:00-4:45pm.  TAG Green, for teens in grades 7-9, will meet on Sunday, September 14th from 3:30-4:30pm.  TAG is a create place to meet new friends, to reconnect with summer friends and to help plan all of Fredricksen’s Teen events.

Thanks again to all of you who made Summer Reading Program 2014 at Fredricksen a smashing success.

Mrs. Davies

Okay? Okay.  Don't miss our showing of the hit 2014 film based on the best selling YA novel by John Green.  We will have a book discussion from 1:00-2:00 and then begin the film at 2:00 pm.

Hazel and Gus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous given that Hazel's other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they met and fell in love at a cancer support group.  This movie is rated PG-13 and runs for 130 minutes.

Refreshments provided by the Friends of Fredricksen. For teens ages 12 – 18, in grades 7 -12.

A book selfie is a photo taken of you at the library holding the book that best expresses your spirit.  Under your book selfie will be a regular selfie.  Don't miss out on this celebration of all things YA - John Green, Casandra Clare, Veronia Roth, Rainbow Rowell and more. We’ll have book giveaways and door prizes too!

Give yourself a rest after all that fun while we show a movie (beginning at 2:30pm).  An ordinary Lego construction worker, thought to be the prophesied 'Special', is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the Lego universe into eternal stasis.  This movie is rated PG and runs for 100 minutes.
