Teen Events @ Fredricksen

Hello and Happy Summer Fredricksen Teens!

Summer fun is waiting for you at the library!  Make plans to meet up with your friends and Spark a Reaction at any or all of our 32 teens events.  We have programs afternoons and evenings so hopefully many of you will be able to join us.

This summer our Tuesday afternoon movie series features blockbusters like Thor: The Dark World, Pacific Rim and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug alongside movies based on books like Catching Fire, The Book Thief and Ender’s Game.  We are also showing annual favorites Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Monty Python’s Holy Grail.  If you can’t get your fill of movies on Tuesday, check out these Spark a Reaction themed flicks on Thursdays: Real Genius, Doctor Who Day of the Doctor and Star Trek: Into Darkness and Tron (the original).

Movies not your thing? How about crafts, board games and video games?  We will be making friendship and rainbow loom bracelets, tie dye-sharpied-bleach penned t-shirts and sun prints.

If Firefly, The Avengers, Hazel and Gus, Catherines or Hogwarts mean anything to you then you want to plan to be at our Joss Whedon, John Green and Harry Potter Fandom events.  Total immersion for 90-minutes talking about characters, plots, writers and more.  Your chance to geek out!

Our fall 2013 writers group was so successful that we are bringing it back for the summer!  This is not an instruction class but rather a chance for teen writers to share their work with peers, get help working out tricky plot points and just spending time with other writers.  Prizes, resources and support for your writers’ soul.

Looking for something totally new at the library?  This summer we are hosting our first Chopped cooking competition.  Registration is limited to 15 teens who will compete in teams of 5 for prizes.  Mystery ingredients, creative pressure and lots of laughing are waiting in our stocked pantry.

Costumes! Costumes! Costumes!  Come to a movie or a fandom event in costume and you will have a chance to win awesome prizes like dvds, books, posters, memorabilia and more.  Most programs also have a random attendee drawing for another prize.

And don’t forget to register for our Spark a Reaction reading program.  Read books, write reviews, win prizes – what could be simpler?  This year you can increase your chances to win an 8gb 7” Android tablet by reading a book from our 2014 Hot Picks List.  Our popular “May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor” lollipop tree will once again offer you chances to win prizes from lollipops to dvds and gift cards.

Details about these programs and many more are available on this site and at the library.

Hoping to see you soon,

The Fredricksen Teen Summer Reading Team,

Deanna Williamson and Mrs. Davies

Hazel and Gus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey.
