Children's Events @ Fredricksen

Mary Alice Spiegel began her career at the West Shore Public Library in 1985.  She became the fulltime Children's Services Manager in 1997, which means that she has served the library for 31 wonderful years!

Among her many accomplishments are the development, with Library Assistant Candy Harm, of the still popular program Library for Lunch.  This program received the Pennsylvania Libraries Learning Starts Here Best Practices Award in 2006.  She won the Pennsylvania Libraries Learning Starts Here Best Practices Award for Mission Transition, a still popular kindergarten readiness program, in 2007.  She became trained in Family Place and wrote the original proposal which turned Fredricksen into a Family Place Library.  From that training, she designed and developed the extremely popular Discovery Area in the Pollock Children's Room at the library.  She was instrumental in securing a grant from the Pollock Foundation in 2016 for refurbishment of that area.

She was an integral part of the furnishing committee when the Fredricksen Library was built in 2001. Finally, the ever-popular Just Baby and Me story times were her invention.

Her management and supervision of one of the largest departments in the library has ensured continual high quality programming, an up-to-date and heavily used collection, and a beautiful physical facility.  Best wishes to Mary Alice for all happiness in her next steps!  Click here for photos of Mary Alice during the years at Fredricksen
