Join performer Paul Miller of Flow Circus as he learns that super skills like juggling and magic can be mastered by finding resources, setting goals, and practicing. One book starts him on a playful journey that leads to a lifetime of fighting boredom while challenging him and others to reach new heights. For all ages with no registration required. Volunteers from the Harrisburg/West Shore Chess Club will be on hand to assist young chess players and match up competitors with equal skill level. Ages 7-13. Participants are asked to bring a chess set if possible but not required. No registration required.

Each month we'll have a theme from the The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation and we'll work together to choose specific acts of kindness. We might leave positive notes around town, send care packages, organize a park clean-up... anything! All ages are welcome - no one is too old or too young to be kind.

Join Sovia Therapy at this Story Time and Music Class designed for all children, including those who may have challenges with traditional story times and/or have developmental delays.  Sensory play, read aloud stories, music and ASL interpretation will all be a part of the program, which will take place in a no ‘shush’ zone. Led by certified Music and Developmental Therapists, this full sensory experience is for children of all ages and developmental levels. Registration begins July 11; adult must accompany child.

In "George Washington and the Cherry Tree” kids to play the parts of George, Augustine, his father, and Cherry Tree. "Follow the Drinking Gourd" tells the story of escaping slavery and audience members join in singing Pick a Bale of Cotton and Follow the Drinking Gourd. For grades 1 to 3 with registration starting starting July 15.

Mission Transition 2015/2016:

Preparing for Kindergarten

One Monday a month at 6:30 pm Sept through May

Help your little one prepare for a lifetime of learning by participating in this innovative program developed by our own Pollock Children’s Library staff.

Children attending these school districts are welcome:

Camp Hill (Hoover Elementary) First Monday

East Pennsboro (West Creek Hills and East Pennsboro Elementary) Second Monday

West Shore (Washington Heights, Lower Allen and Highland Elementary) Third Monday

Cumberland Valley (Shaull, Hampden, and Sporting Hill) Fourth Monday

Children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2016 will do kindergarten readiness activities, hear stories, have parachute fun, and work with colors, numbers, letters, sorting, rhyming and science. Kids may meet other future students and make early friendships! Sessions will be on Mon., but moved to Wed. on holiday weeks. Registration starts Aug 3rd with the first session starting Aug 31st.

We’ll have a picnic, face painting, photo booth, and balloon animals from 5-7 pm and comedian Pete Geist from 7-8 pm.  Wrist bands will be distributed beginning on July 22 with registration required.
