Writers' Wordshop @ Bosler

Woman writingCalling All Writers! The Writers' Wordshop @ Bosler is back beginning Wednesday, April 9. Space is limited!

Being a writer and adopting the writing lifestyle is a journey. To help you prepare, join us in this cross genre workshop (poetry, fiction, memoir, creative non-fiction), where we will focus on the elements that make for vivid, effective, and inspired writing. Through creativity-based exercises, we will sharpen our skills in capturing memorable images, developing detail, and expanding our expressive language in ways that will resonate with our readers. In a group setting, we will explore skills and share techniques that place us firmly on the path to sustainable writing practice.

Melinda Downey Shultz has an MFA in creative writing from Carlow University (Pittsburgh and Ireland) and is currently the editor of an environmental magazine; she has been a professional writer for more than twenty years, and is now bringing her expertise to the Bosler Library.

The spring session will meet on the following dates:

  • April 9
  • April 23
  • May 14
  • May 28
  • June 11
  • June 25

Registration is necessary--it is understood that participants will be registering for the entire 6-part session and are committing to attend the series. Space is limited so that everyone has a chance to participate. For more information, call (717) 243-4642 ext 3224 or email cmellen@ccpa.net.

The group will utilize the "Sacred Circle Rules" from Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way as follows:

  1. Creativity flourishes in a place of safety and acceptance
  2. Creativity grows among friends, withers among enemies
  3. All creative ideas are children who deserve our protection
  4. All creative success requires creative failure
  5. Fulfilling our creativity is a sacred trust
  6. Violating someone's creativity violates a sacred trust
  7. Creative feedback must support the creative child and never shame it
  8. Creative feedback must build on strengths and never focus on weakness
  9. Success occurs in clusters and is born in generosity
  10. The good of another can never block our own
