Cold War Cinema

Join us every Monday afernoon at 2:00 pm for a flashback to the cinema of the Cold War.

The American and Soviet struggle during the 20th century was waged as much culturally as it was politically, and Hollywood made a number of films with Cold War themes—some overt, and some more subtle. As the decades grew on, attitudes shifted, which is reflected in the cinematic works of the 1980s and beyond.

A complete list of titles may be obtained in the library, but here is a clue for the next showing:

A young stevedore (Marlon Brando) takes on the mobster who rules the docks. Directed by Elia Kazan. (1954), not rated, 108 minutes.

Reservations are not necessary. For further information, call (717) 243-4642 ext 3224. Screenings will be held in our Community Room. Snack and beverage machines are located adjacent to the Community Room for your convenience.

The Cold War Cinema series offers community members an opportunity to enhance their Civic and Social Literacy, one of the five literacies promoted by the PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries initiative launched by the Pennsylvania Library Association in early 2012.
