Teen Events

Teen Summer Reading Program - June 7 - August 7, 2014:  For teens going into grades 7 - 12, read books appropriate for you, no re-reads, audiobooks, e-books & graphic novels count, submit as many book reviews as you like, use your Bingo card (pick up at the library) to record books you read and programs you attend, get a prize for each bingo (5 in a row) AND an entry in the grand prize raffle.  Get extra entries for the grand prize raffle by:  filling your whole Bingo card, writing book reviews, completing a teen crossword puzzle or word search, attending a teen summer program.


Teen Summer Programs: (1 pm programs end at 3 pm; 5 pm programs end at 7 pm)

Wednesday, July 9 @ 5 pm - Madden 25 Tournament & Indoor Game Day:  Too hot to run around outside?  Come cool off inside with a Madden 25 PS3 Tournament.  In addition to the PS3 game, we will also have board games and cards.  Snacks will be provided, but you're welcome to bring something to share.  No registration required.


Thursday, July 10 @ 1  pm - Movie: Hunger Games: Catching Fire: Come hang out at the library for an afternoon movie.  We'll be showing Hunger Games: Catching Fire which is rated PG-13 and runs 146 minutes.  Snacks will be provided.  No registration required.


Wednesday, July 16 @ 5 pm - Duct Tape Crafts:  Sure, Duct tape can be used to decorate your school binders, folders, and notebooks, but why not use the cool designs to make a funky lanyard or wallet?  Bring your favorite roll of Duct tape to the library and we'll show you how to make a wallet that you can actually use!  Registration is required.  Teens must bring a roll of duct tape in exchange for a fee waiver. Teens unable to bring tape, must pay a $2.00 registration fee to cover material costs.  Fee is due at time of registration


Thursday, July 17 @ 1 pm - Doctor Who Mania:  It might not be Tardis Day, but we're celebrating anyway!  Come to a Whovian gathering where we'll make sonic screwdrivers, create a mini Tardis, and watch an episode of the longest running science fiction TV show in the world.  Teens are encouraged to come in costume.  A prize will be awarded to the best dressed!  Registration is required.


Wednesday, July 23 @ 5 pm - Sharpie Tie-Dye:  Add some color to your summer attire with Sharpie style tie-dye!  Bring a shirt (preferably white and all cotton) and we'll show you how to brighten it up with Sharpies.  If it's nice outside, we'll go out so please dress accordingly.  No registration required


Thursday, July 24 @ 1 pm - Movie:  17 Again:  Come hang out at the library for an afternoon movie. We'll be showing 17 Again which is rated PG-13 and runs 102 minutes.  Snacks will be provided.  No registration required.


Wednesday, July 30 @ 5 pm - Field Day:  Who says field days are just for little kids?!  Come reminisce as we enjoy games that we used to play.  Think 4-Square, crab walking, relay races, sidewalk chalk and other silly but potentially competitive elementary school games.  We will be outside, so dress accordingly.  If it rains, this event will be rescheduled for Wednesday, August 6 from 5 - 7 pm.  Registration is required.


Thursday, August 7 @ 5 pm - Battle of the Bands:  What a better way to end the Teen Summer Reading Program than with an outdoor concert for all ages?  This program is run by and features teens in grades 7 - 12.  Come out and listen to the musical talents of local teens as they compete in our first Battle of the Bands Concert.  Although only teens may compete, all ages are welcome to attend.  Feel free to bring lawn chairs or a blanket and a picnic.  There will be beverages and snacks available for sale.  No registration required for attendees, but teens interested in performing must stop by the library for registration paperwork Performance slots are limited, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible.  If it rains, this event will be rescheduled for Saturday, August 9 @ 5 pm.
