Children's Events

To register for one or more of the programs listed below, please call the library at 717-486-3688 or stop in and register.

 

February 5, 12, 19 & 29 - Free Play Fridays from 10 am - 12 pm -The toy area in the basement will be open for free play.  There will be no guided activity or storytime.  This is a time for children and caregivers to play on their own.  Participants must enter through the upstairs library entrance.  No registration is required, but please sign in at the front desk upon arrival.  Limited to children age newborn - age 6 and their caregiver/s.  Caregiver/s must stay with the child/children at all times.  

 

Saturday, February 27 @ 10 am - The Early American Kitchen - Join Cumberland County Educator, Matthew March, as you learn about foods early Americans produced, prepared and consumed during a time with no refrigerators, running water or the ability to buy strawberries in February.  Learn about some techniques of food preservation including the transformation of liquids to solids and solids to liquids.  Make your own butter which you can eat on bread with freshly ground cinnamon as you decide whether or not you could live without your microwave.  Most appropriate for ages 4 & older, this educational program will be enjoyed by the whole family.  Registration requested.

 

Saturday, March 12 @ 10 am - Celebrate Dr. Suess - Dr. Suess would be happy. Oh yes, he sure would. To see kids at the library having fun as kids should. Join us for books, games, crafts, snacks and fun!  All ages welcome w/ an adult helper.  Registration required, limited to 25.

Saturday, March 26 @ 11 am - Easter Egg Hunt

Bring your basket and hunt for eggs on the library lawn.  Takes place rain or shine.  Ages 10 and under w/ an adult helper.  Registration strictly required and limited to 50 each hunt.

 

Saturday, April 2 @ 10 am - Author visit - Courtney Montepara, "Sam the Porcupine and His Quills of Courage" - Courtney will share this delightful book with the kids.  In additon, the kids will have discussions about what it takes to be a friend, learn about porcupines, and do a cool porcupine craft.  Autographed books will be available for purchase after the program.  Ages 2 & older w/ an adult helper.  Registration required.

 

Saturday, April 30 @ 10 am - Ice Princess Morning - Two well-known and adored ice princess sisters will be here at the library!  One will read the book, "A Sister More Like Me". Kids will then play games with the princesses, do a craft, enjoy a snack, and have photo opportunities with both.  All ages w/ an adult helper.  Registration required, limit 25.

 

Saturday, May 7 @ 10 am - Dads and Donuts - Come to the library w/ dad (of any male relative or friend) to enjoy stories, eat donuts, and make a Mother's Day gift for that special someone.  Ages 2 & older w/ an adult helper.  Registration required, limit 30.

 

Tuesday, May 17 @ 6:30 pm - Ready, Set Go! - This is for kids who will start kindergarten in August 2016.  From May through August, your child will come once a month to do fun activities which will help your child prepare for kindergarten.  Because we want to concentrate on your pre-kindergarten child, we ask that you not bring other children.  Registration required, limited to 20 - an adult helper must come with the child.
